Home PIP assessment

Options
Hi everyone.
My mum had her home assessment for PIP today. The lady was very nice.
I just have a few questions, as my mum was upstairs in bed (this is where she spends most of her time, due to toilet being next door), the Health Professional stated that she is unable to carry out the assessment upstairs, so we would need to bring mum down or cancel/change it the appointment.
We brought her down after quite a struggle with the stairs, my dad had to physically carry her down for most part so we were able to continue. My mum was in a lot of pain, and we kept having to adjust her position every few minutes. The HP was there for only about 20 minutes, asked general questions about dressing/washing/eating and taking meds.
She did not examine her physically as she said she could see mum was in a lot of pain.

She then ended the assessment by saying she will finish off her report and we should get a copy of this in 4-6 weeks time.
Is it still this long? I read people ringing the DWP after a few days after to request a copy - is this right?

Also, having read a lot of horror stories about previous assessments..is such a short assessment time something to worry about?

Many thanks for all advice..

They don't automatically send a copy to you. You have to ring and request it's sent. They won't send you a copy until they recieve both copies, paper and digital. usually the decision maker goes with that report, so it'll give you some idea what the decision is likely to be.

No one can tell you whether the length of time was good or bad, as assessment times vary depending on how many questions are asked. Decision times also vary and depend on the back log in your area.

Good luck and hopefully it's good news.

    Thank you

May I ask, after how many days should we call to get a copy of the report?
  • I had my assessment a week ago, I called again today and the DWP still haven't received the report. I was told there is a backlog at present. They have put a note on the computer to say I want a copy when it arrives. It's a horrible wait...we just have to hope things work out for the best.

You may want to call the assessment providers. My daughter had her home assessment 1 week ago, when i rang DWP today they told me they still hadn't recieved it back. A quick call to the assessment people only to find out the her report has gone to audit. They're chosen at random for this, and is nothing to worry about. It just causes delays in the decision making process. I wouldn't be at all surprised if yours is there too.

A few days or even 1 week to be sure it's returned. They won't send you a copy until they recieve both copies.

Good idea Poppy, I'll call tomorrow. Shall we have a race to see who gets their decision first. Let's hope we all get the news we want the hear.

Any idea (if mine is also in audit) how long the delay is?

lol :rotfl:there's no time scale. My ESA report went to audit some years ago, delayed the process by 3 weeks. Hopefully yours wasn't the chosen one. Goodluck too with your decision!
  • UPDATE, I wasn't audited. Report is with decision maker.....they have sent out a copy of my assessment today. Nervous much...

As the OP only rang yesterday, it can take up to 1 week or sometimes longer to recieve a letter from DWP. They use 2nd class post and it has to go through their mail sorting process as well.
