Completely disagree. People need to use a bit of common sense when booking their flight. I avoid 1-hour LHR connection when travelling with my family but I'm more than happy to book them when flying alone. I don't need the airline to decide what's an acceptable risk for me.

Or have a realistic attitude to risk - I was happy to chance a short connection, as I knew that there was a later flight to get me home in the day.
I was also aware that there was a very strong possibility of missing my onward flight, which would lead to a EU261 claim.

The worst is Qatar Airways who sold 40min connections at DOHa.
Unlike Heathrow, Doha airport is very 'connection friendly' and 40 mins between flights is not usually a problem. Have they now changed the MCT?

It isn't very common amongst inexperienced travellers and inexperienced travel agents.

As it is all on 1 ticket, it is the arrival time at the final destination that counts so as you arrived into Newcastle 16 hours late then you will be entitled to compensation under E261 - you can fill in a claim form on the BA website.

Be ready for them to come up with a thousand excuses why they shouldnt pay but keep on at it. If you need more info this forum is really helpful:

Again, I disagree. No matter how little you travel you must be able to realize that a 1 hour connection leaves little room for delays.

whether EU261 compensation is due, does not only depend on the arrival time at the final destination but, more importantly, the reason for the delay. The OPs flight left on time (rule out technical issue before departure) but landed 20 mins late in Heathrow...I would take an educated guess that the delayed landing was due to ATC/weather (including en route) which would mean compensation would not be payable

Some just don't have that reasoning.
If they are being sold something, expectations are reasonably good that what's being proposed is more than likely to happen.

I can't believe that. In any case, IME you will almost always make a 1 hour connection at LHR if your flight arrives on schedule so I don't think 60 minutes is too short. If anything, the MCT's for UK domestic to international are too long. 45-50 minutes would be perfectly adequate IMO.

I can certainly believe it. I wouldn't want a 60 min connection at T5 following a transatlantic flight but an inexperienced traveller, especially one who hasn't connected through Heathrow before, might not even think it could be a problem.

My point is that if they fail to think about it they're not using common sense. Hence my earlier advice that people need to use common sense when booking their flight. And it is common sense that 60 minutes between flights leaves little room for delays. It has nothing to do with experience, in fact an inexperienced traveller should probably be thinking about what they're buying even more than an experienced traveller.
