DBS Check?

I do DBS checks for a charity.

I've had several which have come back within 24 hours. They've mostly been 18-year olds.

The majority take 5-10 days.

Some longer - usually where the person has moved around a lot, or they are undertaking activities in their own home.

These are all using an online service. Paper forms take longer.

Does it not need to go to met police?
I’ll be honest I’ve no idea how DBS checks work, I know I had one before where I worked but don’t recall on how long it took

Met Police are the London police . They will be busier than other forces because of the sheer volume of people in London and the big transient population. From your user name , I'm guessing you're not a londoner. If you've never lived or worked there it won't affect you
Mine was london , but i have lived at the same address 20 years and had previous DBS checks so that probably helped

Always lived in West Yorkshire
Been at my current place for 8 years now so hopefully that might speed it up a little

My last DBS was in February this year, and took less than 24 hours. My daughter has had three this year, and each one has taken around three weeks. Her latest was within a month of the previous one, but still took three weeks to come through.

She's only ever had one surname, I've had three. She hasn't moved in that time, and we're both in the same area (same town, one mile between my address and hers). Neither of us have ever had any police involvement, and all were for enhanced checks.

There doesn't seem to be any reason that my daughter's took longer than mine, or that mine was so quick.

If you think you might want to get a job elsewhere which requires a similar enhanced DBS check (ie it covers adults and/or children) and you are a Healthcare Assistant requiring a check of the appropriate Barred List, you might want to consider registering for the update service. Think it costs about £5 a year and means potential employers can do an instantaneous online check because you have paid for them to keep it updated.

24 hours would be nice haha but I realise that’s rather vain hope

If your daughter is likely to need more DBS checks in the future, she could sign up for the update service. It has to be done promply after receiving the certificate though.

She's already signed up, thank you. The first check was for Girlguiding, so as this is voluntary (and not a paid for check), it wasn't possible to use it for employment checks. The later ones have been via this service though. She's changed her job a couple of times this year, and returned to her original job - she found that the grass isn't always greener
