I have a Pi with RetroPi on it and I must say it is a lot of fun. BUT... not if you wanna play online with your friends and have great picture quality (like the OP said they wanted)Hi. Just got my Switch.
I also grew up with the same games as you.
Mario Kart 8 is good, back on form.
Mario Odyssey is the spiritual successor to Mario 64 and is ace.
I also have Mario + Rabbids, an Xcom type turn based strategy game but with that Nintendo touch.
Lots of forthcoming games as well particularly looking forward to Metroid Prime 4.0
