Motorpoint admin fee issue
I am buying a car with Motorpoint and after looking about found out that their £99 admin fee wasn't optional.
Having paid for their valet in the past and been majorly disappointed I thought that I would get it removed so contacted them and received the following response.
"I can have that arranged for you however I do need to make you aware that if you decide to opt out it does mean that the vehicle will come exactly how it is. It wont have a full professional valet done on it, It wont have a full pdi check it will just be made sure it is road legal. It also wont have a service if it is due one and you wont be provided with a HPI certificate."
How should I play this as it seems as if they are saying they won't check the car they are selling is road legal unless I pay them £99?

They say they will make sure it is road legal, whatever that means.
If it needs an MOT check online, check the service book, take it for a test drive.
Last time I collected a valeted car the muck they spread over the tyres was all over the bodywork before I had driven a few miles.0 -
Your post says they will make sure it is road legal, but they won’t do an hpi check or valet or service
Guess if you want those three things done by them you would have to pay the £99
What percentage of the purchase price is £990 -
You don't need an HPI check if you are buying from a dealer (they will have done it before they bought it, and you are covered if there is outstanding finance anyway).
You will be lucky if the "service" is even an oil & filter change, and you will be checking whether or not everything works as soon as you get it, PDI or no PDI.
So, are you prepared to get the vacuum cleaner out yourself for £99?
I'd service it myself as soon as I got it, so I know that it has been done, and properly.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

They'd be hpi'in it and valeting it when it comes in anyway. Doubt the servicing is worth much if they are doing it for £99.
It's up to you though; is it worth walking away over £99?0 -
Quicks tried that on with me. My response to the HPI statement was that surely they knew the car they were selling was stolen or on finance and if it turned out it was then that was their lookout and I'd get my money back.
Once I got it it had an issue that if they'd have PDI'd it they would have found. They ended up repairing it anyway the following week and the only thing they ensured they did was to make sure anyone who asked me whether they should buy a car from them got told no. Not entirely correct - they have to do a PDI check and Motorpoint's servicing would have been done when they received the car (if needed) - their cars on sale are ready to drive away.
They often don't even know about manufacturer specific checks that need to be done. For example, most Hyundai vehicles sold by Motorpoint have not had their first year anti-perforation check carried out by a Hyundai dealer. Thus those vehicles do not have a 10/12 year anti-perforation warranty.
In their defence, at least Motorpoint offer the optional fee - less honourable outfits like Motordepot say it's compulsory (so why not add it on the screen price as an honest trader would).0 -
If you have viewed the car, you must of seen the condition, if it needs a wash/vacuum or not. Also you can check the service history or on dash system to see when the next service is due. I'm gathering you have copy/pasted that statement from the sales persons email, which says " a HPI Certificate won't be issued" which says to me, it's had a HPI check which they have to do by law but you won't be getting the piece of paper certificate.0

Aletank,
When you refuse to pay this £99 you cannot believe just how the car dealership attitudes change at places like this. They literally do a Jekyll and Hyde going from being able to move the earth for you to being belligerent, argumentative and downright rude. It is almost as if that £99 is all what they get paid for selling the car. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. OP you should just vote with your feet and go to a dealer who values custom. Imagine the problems you will have if there are problems to sort out with the car.0

I can imagine they're not your m8 no more !0
