Is hmrc or the compliance able to look into PayPal accounts etc without permission
It depends on who's permission you mean?
  • I'm not saying it would matter??

    Thank you poppy

They don't need the account holders permission if they think it's fraud.

If there is suspicion of fraud, the last thing HMRC, DWP or any other organisation would do is inform the suspect by asking for permission to look into their bank accounts.

Ok. They've asked and she's provided statements anyway but from what your saying is they are able to look into anyone's bank details anyway

I think the just of it is they think my mum and dad are still together. She's provided all statements and a letter from my dad but I just was wondering if they question every transaction n if need provide PayPal statements just as a family member had used this to transfer money once for a holiday so was just wondering.

As a one off? Why would that be of any concern? Although it is a strange thing to do if it's a bank to bank transfer from family to family.

I'm sorry but it all sounds very odd and can't help but think there is more to it then what is being shared here.

What you think is of no relevance.

How is it a strange thing to do if there's money there and she wanted to use it? I don't understand why everything has to be fishy! Ppl have money n choose to do whatever they wish without over thinking what the rest of the world are going to think! Some ppl in this world have no idea how benefits work and how things can be perceived so they don't over think their every movement funnily enough! Simply asked a question as my mum who has NOTHING to hide is worrying herself ill wondering if so much as her buying things from the shops will look like she's been spending too much whilst on benefits etc as she has no clue about any of this and I simply was looking for unbiased unopinionated advice so we can provide everything necessary to get this sorted asap and her mind at rest but that's obviously too much to ask for so I'll leave it at that. If there was more to it I'd quite clearly need to explain that to get any logical advice??? And also I doubt I'd be on here asking for any as seems there's too many ppl ready to jump on innocent ppl with their own opinions never mind god forbid someone in this world did do something wrong.

Thank you trigger fish, glad to see someone who doesn't just come to own conclusions
