How did they find out about this bank account, was she using it for her benefit payments? I can't see how they would discover it, otherwise.0

I think that's right, my dad had opened a savings account and had about 2000 in it, it was linked to their joint account and because there was a bit of interest HMRC notified them as far as I'm aware.0

It's not suddenly checking her outOk, but why would they suddenly check her out? I thought HMRC could only inform them about savings accounts due to tax paid on interest?
The systems are all linked up now. Unusual or fraudulent-looking patterns are automatically flagged up for investigationpoppy100 -
Is hmrc or the compliance able to look into PayPal accounts etc without permission0
