the M sport has "staggered" wheels so you cannot swap tyres front to back to even wear and get best value out of them.
Sport and SE version do not.
To me the 1 series 2.0d Msport is just a tarted up diesel hatch
They are a nice car to drive but when I test drove equivalent Golf, A3 and 1 series back to back I rated the A3 well above the other 2 with the 120 xdrive 2nd. The Golf to me just didn't feel quality.
1 series is RWD so if you encounter snow and ice you and your wife may find it more challenging to drive.
BABY BMW forum may be worth a look.
I think you're being particularly harsh. It has a great engine with a decent turn of speed, with the right options its a very nice place to sit in, the M Sport suspension works well and theres a decent quality feel to the car. Its also RWD which adds to the driving dynamic of the car - pretty much unique in its class. I think it all works well together as a packing - certainly not "tarted up".
My sons had the upgraded 18 inch alloys, silver, full black leather, upgraded sound system and it was very nice. He had a tuning box on his which took it from 177BHP to around 220BHP. That really made a car of it.0 -
Yes it's from a Bavarian branch! Test driving in a few hours time.
Sounds good. Thats where i'd be getting one from if i was buying one that close to new. BMWs Approved Used warranty is exceptional.
The "trick" with the servicing BTW - get it serviced every 18,000 or so (or as per the service book) by BMW, but get any maintenance work / interim service done by your choice of local mechanic. You can buy BMW spec oil and a genuine Filter too at a reasonable price.
We got the interim service done by our local guy, discs, pads, MOT prep, that sort of stuff. Saved £££s over taking it to BMW
That way you're maintaining your FBMWSH but it isnt costing you a fortune.0 -
Great advice, thanks!0

The vast majority of people do not live in areas in the UK where snow is a particularly big issue. Where i live is quite rural and in the last heavy snow winter we had (about 5 years ago) i'd a RWD Mercedes C220CDI. No issues at all getting about.
My wife has an AWD car at the min, however over the last 10 years or so shes ran a 370Z GT, BMW Z4, BMW Z4 Coupe with no issues at all.
Also winter tyres are the most sensible upgrade is snow is an issue for you - i'd rather have a 2WD / RWD car on winter tyres than an AWD car on summer tyres.
Not an issue here for the OP as the one his looking at is AWD anyway.0 -
I am pretty sure that the 120 xdrive Msport does not have M sport suspension. But willing to be corrected on that. The hassle of staggered wheels would put me off the M Sport version over the sport or se

I think we are going to take it... Giving ourselves a little cooling off time, but we both love it.0

Definitely. All of the testing I've seen shows that 2WD on winters are better than 4WD on summers. 4WD on winters is obviously the best, but still.0 -

Yes, thats correct, it doesnt have the M Sport suspension.
I've never found staggered wheels a hassle. Have had them on various cars - 370Z, Boxster, Z4, 535d, etc. When two are due for replacement we just replace them, we dont shuffle them about and then have a bill for four down the line.0
