O/S Daily Thursday 26th October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting read for work and DS2 still in his pit.

Still dark here, but feels cooler - yesterday was very mild but overnight the temperature has dropped as the heating kicked in a little while ago. I did get a line of washing line dried here as it was a lovely sunny day.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash, carrots and peas. Tonight not sure, but possibly prawn and smoked salmon linguine.

Yesterday was another hectic day but not quite so bad, but I'm pleased now to be on days' off. I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society this morning, I'll also be visiting the cheap chemist shop for fabric conditioner and some toiletries - they are far cheaper than everywhere else.

I have the normal "to do" list - but really CBA - so I'll probably do just the minimum. The plumber is coming back this afternoon to fit the part for the shower, so hopefully that will sort the problem.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all, dark and cold here so far. Thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

I have removed and disposed of the mouse corpse in the trap, not necessarily the way I'd hoped to start the day. I need to get the house cleaned today and will probably leave the washing until tomorrow as the forecast today is not great but tomorrow is meant to be sunny.
I've done the little bit of washing up left from last night and disinfected the area where the mousetrap was.
Worked late last night, will probably do a bit of work today but it is meant to be a day off so not too much.

Other than that no major plans.

Welcome to new posters, this a nice supportive place to be though most other posters have more interesting lives than me!

Am planning a break from work next month to avoid total meltdown of me. Must actually book it otherwise it probably won't happen.

Hope Speky is on his way to a lovely week of sunshine!
Good to hear from you MM, we like being your friends too!

So far it's not raining but it is only 6.30, plenty of time yet. DW emptied and the bins out ready for emptying.

I went to the gym yesterday after work, it's such an alien place to me, all those machines and I only know how to use about 3 of them. I don't really enjoy it but need to get some muscles working. Realised how unfit and weak I am when I tried to lift the spare wheel out of the boot the other week.

Anyway, hope you are all ok, have a good Thursday. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

JackieO I’m so sorry that it wasn’t better news about Frank.
Hope you are still enjoying your spa Tru.
    Specky enjoy your holiday.
redruby it sounds like work is really hectic this week. I hope that you at least got lunch yesterday.
Jennyp Welcome to the thread. I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

I managed to eat some food other than junk yesterday. Just some scrambled eggs on toast and then a couple of sandwiches, but at least it wasn’t just biscuits and cakes.

I need to go to the bank this morning. I haven’t had to use the counter for a couple of years and have been told that there is usually quite a queue so I’m not looking forward to that.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning all,

Dark here and a bit chilly but not too cold no central heating on yet but I think it will be soon as its getting harder to get out of a warm bed in the mornings.

Work today yesterday was manic second busiest day ever, did not have a lunch again but am building my lieu up nicely :D

Something and chips for dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this. I must put a wash on too or I wont have enough work t-shirts for the week.

Specky have a great holiday xx

Tru, Im on the way will pick up hollyharvey and some snacks :D

    Good morning everyone.

For once I’ve had a fitful sleep, think it’s because of being in a hothouse here at DMs. Added to that she and her visitor talked until gone midnight. DM is deaf and her visitor has a naturally loud voice, plus she’s Swabian which gives a harsher tone with a strong dialect.

I’m taking them both to Hill House in Helensburgh later this morning. It’s the house built entirely to designs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, not only the architecture but spoons, carpets, furniture etc. It’s very interesting. We’ll on down along the Holy Loch, turn right at Arrochar to come home via Loch Lomond. The forecast is for a fine day...we’ll see!

That’s my day! Apart from breakfast food will be on the hoof.

I hope everyone has a happy Thursday.

    Morning everyone,

Sorry to hear the news re Frank JackieO
    Enjoy your day out Gers

Cloudy here and cooler as well, the forecast for the weekend is much colder with nighttime temps down to just 1 degree, think an extra blanket will be going on the bed!

Just snaffling a quick breakfast before heading to the yard, Lulu and I have a lesson.

Better get going, have a good day folks x
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A fine start here and forecast to remain so - we shall see!

Lovely day out in Skipton yesterday. Sunny but chilly, we enjoyed browsing the sunny side of the market the most! I picked up a few stocking fillers on the "bling" stall - as usual some lovely bits and pieces at reasonable prices. Also a t-shirt for DS from the Fat Face sale. I refrained from buying any more books in any of the cs but I did succumb to a lovely and snuggly Cotton Traders top for myself. It looked brand new so I was well happy with that!

Lunch was enjoyed as usual, as was the bottle of wine, and we each offloaded our worries about our DH's health. Not all doom and gloom though, we shared lots of laughs too! A good day out.

After two days of skiving, today is going to be a busy day - I would rather skive! The Friday Tidy is being brought forward to this morning and the Thursday shop is being delayed until this afternoon. The DGDs are back from the caravan today as DD is back at work tomorrow, so they are all here for tea and sleepover. And here all day tomorrow too. Yet to plan what we will be doing with them. Maybe we will all come down to TRU's for tomorrow's Spa Day! Wine and chocs packed already!

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) for the sad, worried and poorly who want them. Sorry the news on Frank wasn't good JACKIE. Take care all xx

    Good morning All

JackieO sorry the news wasn't better

Just had first cup of tea.
Asked DH 'did you sleep well' answer with a big smile 'I did wake up, that's a good start'

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

quite a while ago ( i think it was you) you were having trouble keeping in touch with your grandson, and i had a thought, would it be possible to "FaceTime or Skype" to keep in touch? if he's too small now maybe in the future it might work? if he's not old enough maybe you could suggest it to your son to help?
