No. We are talking about travel within the EU, of which most of us are citizens and residents with access to health care.
My point is that travel insurance is no more necessary to another part of the EU than it is to another part of the UK.
As long as you are aware of the risks and make an informed decision, not taking insurance is not foolish.0 -

And my own example shows the opposite as I’d have been several thousand pounds out of pocket.

But wouldn't you have had the same problem if this had happened to you hundreds of miles from home but still in the UK?0 -

This is why you still take travel insurance when travelling to Europe.Well not this specifically as many peoples excess may be higher than the amounts being discussed.
I must checked my own WW annual multi trip policy. If I use an EHIC but am required to pay a contribution, then the policy excess is waived. Wasnt aware of this before, but policy conditions will vary by provider.0
