Which could happen if you were 300 miles away from home in the UK.

In which case family would have fetched me home.
At great inconvenience to them .
But we aren’t talking about the uk.

No. We are talking about travel within the EU, of which most of us are citizens and residents with access to health care.

My point is that travel insurance is no more necessary to another part of the EU than it is to another part of the UK.

As long as you are aware of the risks and make an informed decision, not taking insurance is not foolish.

You’ve quoted me-I was responding to another poster who said you shouldn’t step out of your front door without insurance??!

And my own example shows the opposite as I’d have been several thousand pounds out of pocket.
Rather difficult to make an informed decision based on unknowns .

But wouldn't you have had the same problem if this had happened to you hundreds of miles from home but still in the UK?

Oh, so they've got their own ambulance have they? Or were you actually capable of travelling home by ordinary means?

Yes there is a follow up.
What point are you so desperate to make?
You're the one looking "desperate" to make a point. So come on, what was the follow up? I know you're desperate to tell us ;)

I’m not inclined to explain my situation in detail, but it wasn’t possible for the insurance company to fly me home.

No, if I wanted to tell you I’d have posted a link like I usually do.
Find it yourself seeing as you asked.

This is why you still take travel insurance when travelling to Europe.

Well not this specifically as many peoples excess may be higher than the amounts being discussed.

I must checked my own WW annual multi trip policy. If I use an EHIC but am required to pay a contribution, then the policy excess is waived. Wasnt aware of this before, but policy conditions will vary by provider.
