Have done this trip a few times now have stopped at Pismo Beach Kon tiki inn, loved it there. Also stayed in Monterey, lone oak lodge I think, basic clean motel that didn't eat into our budget.0

Thanks everyone i’ll show the better half your input and hopefully we can turn a good holiday into a great one!Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0

We like to get off the beaten track, just about every small town has a motel or three & some unique diners.
Some of them unique in a good way.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Monterey is lovely. Can't recommend a hotel as it's a few years since we've been, but do recommend Monterey itself.
Closer to LA have you considered a side trip to Solvang? It's a bit kitch and ever so slightly bonkers but good fun. We stayed in Santa Barbara before heading down to L.A., which is not that far south from there, about ninety miles from memory. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

You can search for motels in Google maps
either generically, for example:

or by the name of a chain, for example:

Then you can use StreetView mode to have a look around, for example:

Well after a pain in the backside getting my dates and tickets sorted its now all systems go, I managed to wangle a 16 day holiday which should run thus'ly:
San Francisco 4 nights, then drive to Yosemite
Yosemite 2 nights, then drive to Monterey
Monterey 2 nights, then drive to Santa Barbara or pismo beach
Santa Barbara 2 nights, then drive to San Diego
San Diego 2 nights, then drive to Anaheim.
Anaheim 2 nights (disney), then drive to santa monica or venice beach
Santa Monica/Venice 2 nights
Fly home from LAX.
Approx 1000 miles
Not 100% on santa barbara yet, need to read up and price up hotels etc, also may only do a night in anaheim, unless theres something going on in the immediate area.
I know its a lot of driving but im not one for languishing on beaches, mainly for fear of some tree hugger mistaking me for an elephant seal and trying to encourage me back into the water.
So any thoughts, feedback on my plans? Thus far only flights have been booked so I still have time to adapt the running order.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Looks pretty good to meDepends on what sort of things you enjoy.
Personally I'd have done one day less in SF. Santa Monica was ok for a walk on the beach and pier, and I'd do that on the last day (assuming an evening flight from LAX) but I'd prefer an extra day each in Yosemite, Monterey and San Diego and would have skipped the nights in Santa Monica, but it's horses for courses
What time of year are you going?2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
2021 £1250.00, 2022 £1500.00, 2023 £1500, 2024 £13502025 target = £1200, YTD £690

Thanks for your response.
We are doing 4 nights in San Francisco because we dont land until 18:50 so wont be in our hotel until late ,so thats one night down and we are heading out early to yosemite on the last day.
I stayed in venice previously and really liked it, especially as i had dinner two nights in the row in the most amazing bbq place.
I've done San Francisco, anaheim, LA, venice, hollywood before but this is the first time for my other half.
We are heading out mid JuneLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

The waterfalls in Yosemite should still be flowing well in June and the high mountain roads should be open.
I really liked Monterey, especially the aquarium and whale watching (I'm also a big Steinbeck fan). Wasn't keen on Carmel (too 'fake' for my taste).
If you happen to be in/around San Luis Obispo on the day the farmers market is on (Thursday?) I know Murphy_The_Cat highly recommends this.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
