Note left on my car accusing me of chipping paint

You are not necessarily innocent, simply because you can show you may have parked before this other car arrived.
You may have returned to your car to drop off or collect something, for all anybody knows.0 -

True, but that would require the accuser to assume that the OP's vehicle was unscathed while his own car incurred significant damage. That seems unlikely and unreasonable.0 -

Just looking for a little advice.
I get back to my car today at lunch time to find theres a note on my car telling me I have marked their car and they have taken photos of my number plate, that they have "reported me" and if I don't call them they will "report me for criminal damage".
I'm almost always the first in this car park and have a time-stamped receipt for 6:04am. I parked in a space with no cars around me. I'm confident I haven't knocked someone else's car.
I'm guessing it would be best to not engage with this person, but do I need to warn my insurance company?
Thanks all
I can hear the police laughing now.0 -
Just a quick update, I called my insurance company to explain the situation.
He said it's a common scam and advised me not to call the number. He wasn't really interested in the contents of the note nor did he take down the phone number.
He just left a note on the system to say I reported it.0 -
Sounds like a premium rate number scamGive a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day.
But give a man a fishing rod, and he'll sell it and buy alcohol.0 -

Here's a clue: Premium-rate numbers do not have numbers that could be mistaken for mobiles by anybody with a modicum of clue.
070 is personal number - not premium-rate, the called party gets no money from them.
071-079 are mobiles.
The only numbers that the called party earns money from are 084, 087 and 09 numbers. 09 are the only ones that could be described as expensive - and they're all heavily regulated. https://psauthority.org.uk/0 -
...without even knowing what the phone number's code is...

070 numbers are classed as premium rate numbers, as are numbers starting 076. I believe you're confusing revenue sharing with premium rate - although there was a loophole being exploited in that while the person/company answering the call can't share in the revenue, a service provider/reseller can.
070 and 076 numbers are regulated by ofcom however if they offer phone paid services or charge more than 10p a minute, then PSA can investigate. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Which is why I said 'sounds like' not 'is'. And sadly many people don't have a modicum of clue which is what scammers rely on.Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day.
