Note left on my car accusing me of chipping paint
Just looking for a little advice.
I get back to my car today at lunch time to find theres a note on my car telling me I have marked their car and they have taken photos of my number plate, that they have "reported me" and if I don't call them they will "report me for criminal damage".
I'm almost always the first in this car park and have a time-stamped receipt for 6:04am. I parked in a space with no cars around me. I'm confident I haven't knocked someone else's car.
I'm guessing it would be best to not engage with this person, but do I need to warn my insurance company?
Thanks all

If you read your policy, you will almost certainly find that you are obliged to forward all such correspondence (unanswered) to them. Send it with a covering letter giving your side of the story.
I'd be inclined also to report the threat, and the alleged "accident" to the police.0 -
I would take pictures of your car as it is.
Keep your parking ticket as proof of arrival time.
Is there any cctv in the car park.
I would query your issue with the note with cab etc.
I would leave it to see what comes of it.
Leave well alone & only respond if they start getting the insurance involved.
It sounds like a chancer trying to make money.
It may be worth speaking to work as well as they may try it on with others.
I hope you get things sorted.0 -
Thanks everyone.
It does make you wonder if you should take photos every time you park. What a pain.0 -

He needs to report it for his own protection.0 -

I am prevented by my insurance contract from replying to your allegation.
That does not prevent me from reminding you that you are obliged by law [Road Traffic Act 1988, section 172(2)] to provide me with the names and addresses of the driver and owner of your vehicle, and the registration number.
If you do not do so, you must report the (alleged) accident at a police station or to a constable as soon as is reasonably practicable and, in any case, within twenty-four hours of the occurrence of the accident.0 -

Unless there's damage to the OP's car the the third party is aware of there's nothing for them to report.0
