Economy 7 not fully connected

The concept of Economy 7 is designed for storage heating systems.
The storage heaters use the energy at night and then give it off during the day. Therefore, you are consuming electricity at the point of lower night tariff (i.e. approximately midnight - 7am) but still benefiting from the heat in the day. This is how this particular type of heating system works.
With all of your other electrical appliances, you consume the electricity at the point of use. Therefore, you pay the tariff for that particular time... so unless you are nocturnal, there is not a lot you can practically do.0 -

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]You would expect the immersion heater to be on a different circuit but that does not necessarily mean it is a dedicated E7 circuit with its own built in timer.

Morelat and Nice,
I understand your points.
However, the landlord removed the old water storage systems ( one in the bedroom and one in the living room) and replaced them with well mounted electrical A/C heaters.
This means that I am loosing out on the low rate not only with the washing machine and dishwasher but also the electrical A/C heaters I could be putting with timer at night.
Only the hot water benefits from off peak, which is for taps, shower and the water of the dishwasher.
That is the point why I think by connecting this appliances to the off peak, I would be better off in the long run.0 -

All the circuits will switch over to E7 rates at the appropriate times. The dedicated circuit will only operate during those times. The end !0

You cant just connect to the off peak just because it is cheaper. It is time of day driven. Only the network operator and supplier can modify the set up of your meters. If you had the electrical skills to do so, then you would be doing illegally.
But you arent 'losing out' on your appliances. The Economy 7 tariff is not set up with the idea of saving on using your dishwasher. It is set up to reduce electric heating during the day which adds a lot more demand to the grid than any appliance.0 -

Hi,
here's the photie,0 -
Thanks @frugal!
Now you can all see what I mean,
There is only x1 circuit beaker connected on the top (off Peak/low)
While on the bottom and white panel on the right, is the rest of the circuit beaker for on peak/high0 -
I think you're misunderstanding how economy 7 works:
When you hit the off peak time (ie 12 midnight) EVERYTHING is charged at the lower night rate.
The dedicated off peak circuits to your immersion heater / night storage heaters are then switched on.
Come 7am when you go back to day rate EVERYTHING is charged at the day rate and the off peak dedicated circuit is disconnected.
Think of this secondary circuit as nothing more than an elaborate time switch that controls immersion heaters and night storage heaters. If you have economy 7 provided you set your dishwasher / washing machine etc to come on during the lower rate time then it will benefit from the reduced costs.0
