Morrisons fresh soups

Options
I'm rather disappointed in Morrisons, as when the halal scandal first broke, they were the only supermarket, I read about, who said that only their New Zealand lamb was hang slaughtered and that their own meats and meat products originated from places not using this method.

They did say that they couldn't ,however, vouch for manufactured products from other brands.

Therefore I was rather dismayed to check the label of a pot of their own brand chicken and vegetable broth, only to find that the chicken originated from Thailand , so it went in the bin , as I don't trust the methods used abroad.

OK, I should not eat meat and do have as little as possible. Slaughter isn't cruelty free, but being hanged until dead is beyond the pale and I don't wish to consume any product associated with it (though we are hoodwinked by political correctness over 'insulting' religions).

Oh dear looks like only Fortnum and Masons for us OP!.

I really think is should be clearly labelled as I hate the idea as well.

I’m a bit confused by this post.

Thailand isn’t a Muslim country so why would you think they would slaughter animals in a halal way?

Will you not eat any meat slaughtered abroad or just meat from Thailand?

It seems a slightly ignorant outlook on life. What do you do when you go on holiday? Do you only eat British reared food?

I'm not keen on meat produced in this way either, but if you feel that strongly I would suggest that you cook from scratch using meat from a source that you trust. I also think eating out would be tricky for you.

Many producers of processed food won't even tell you where the meat comes from, so you're fortunate that Morrisons allowed you to make that choice.

I'm also interested in why chicken from Thailand is such a problem for you. This suggests that welfare standards are better than the UK.

You don't really think that everything is better in the UK do you? That's a very insular and, quite frankly, wrong way of thinking.

Answering all the above in one sweep:

I rarely eat out (last time was jacket potato) and stopped using Taybarns when it was announced that they use halal turkey and Hungry Horse when I read about their choice of meat supplier.

    I don't go abroad.

I don't trust foreign meats as , though there are cruel people/practices in this country, some are renowned for cruelty (eg China keeping trussed dogs in pens before slaughter),so it's safer not to trust any.

I do cook from scratch and buy my meat from Morrisons (but don't buy lamb ).I just fancied some 'homemade' soup as my husband was having a week off work, so there were lunches to provide.

Unless the origins of meats are specified, I am wary but was very disappointed by Morrisons who said their products were not halal (more correctly hang slaughtered ;the praying part doesn't bother me, though a lot of that has been shown to be played from a recording loop, so has little point).

I haven't bought Morrisons soup for a while, but imported chicken wasn't mentioned on the previous pot I bought.

I wish I didn't eat meat, but even then there is cruelty in dairy products (just saw a facebook link showing how calves are fitted with a face flap so they can stay with their mum, but not take her milk.

The big problem being that I don't like many vegetables and a bitter cauliflower or very sweet peas put me off that type for weeks, so I'd barely eat, but have a health problem that means I must.

I thought all Halal meat was clearly labelled????

(As if it wasn't, then surely muslims would not buy it?).

I tend to buy only UK meat and nothing labelled as Halal as I find the killing method barbaric.

I would be very annoyed if I purchased British meat that had not been slaughtered humanely!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I think it's useless arguing with you, but what do you think Morrisons have done wrong exactly?

They said that their meat isn't Halal and it most likely isn't.

In your ignorance you seem to think that anything from abroad is dodgy. That seems to be the implication from your posts or are you trying to wind us up?

Halal meat doesn't need to be labeled as such in the UK.

The link posted by Roland may be of interest, but it is from 2014. and therefore slightly out of date now. It is an eye opener in any case.

You seem very confused over what halal is.

If chicken comes from Thailand it doesn’t mean it is halal. Morrison’s have stated that they don’t use halal meat in their own products (apart from lamb). Yet you seem to think they have lied to you as they have used chicken from Thailand.

    It is nonsensical
