Correctly weighed?

  • There is absolutely nothing on labelling to say weight included trimmings or that it had been prepared for you, surely all prepacked salmon has been trimmed, trimmings wise my dog is on raw diet and would have gladly eaten parts left. I completely understand the argument that it is whole salmon but these fillets are sometimes packaged as whole side of salmon do they include half the weight of trimmings? As soon as anything is packaged net weight is defined as that of the package, all they had to do is write the actual weight and you can compare like for like when you are buying. As it is this pack didn't work out any cheaper than if I bought usual fresh fillets from Aldi.
  • In the grand scheme of things it probably is a lot of fuss but the laws are there for a reason, if you give these companies an inch they will in the end take the p**s out of you

I bought a prepacked pack of salmon from Morrisons supermarket which is labelled whole salmon, the pack is labelled net weight 1.595kg and £/kg 7.00 ,pack price £11.17

it was marked whole salmon they had done the work for me and if it had been labelled salmon fillet it would be more expensive.

I asked if I could have my other 600g of fish trimmings as I had payed for them but no and no refund for misleading packaging.

I wonder if this manager is stretching things a little?

Morrisons do have whole salmon on offer occasionally and they will cut it up for you for free. The price charged is for the whole fish before filleting but they will give you all the bits (useful for making stock).

I would expect prepacked fillets to be weighed after the preparation was done.

I had a good response from their FB page when I raised an issue like this.

You could complain to Citizens Advice and ask for the matter to be escalated to Trading Standards. Mistakes happen but Morrison's response seems very poor given there was a large discrepancy in the weight.

So seriously asked them for a load of crap that you couldn't actually eat?

What were you expecting them do to empty a dustbin and give you the contents for you to consume?

It's quiet obvious really why they wouldn't do that.

Well, with respect but that "load of crap" is PERFECTLY EDIBLE!

You think that's crap? Cast a thought (pun intended) to the people who got caught up in concentration camps in WW2; they probably had a feast when they caught a rat, nevermind fresh scraps of fish put in the bin!

I wouldn't expect them to empty the dustbin but if a package of food I purchased was marked up with a net weight of 1.6Kg then I would expect to pay for and to receive 1.6Kg of the product concerned and not less than 1Kg.

Presume you mean the 1965 version? (The 2017 version is not in any way related to WWII or POW camps). :)

    OP.....
You have been conned big time.
Net weight is what it says, the weight of the product in the pack.
I personally take this up with a serious written complaint with the Morrisons store in question, copying in to Morrisons head office & Trading Standards ( or whatever they are called this month ).
    What an appalling con trick.................
