Congestion charge hike for pre 2006 cars
I hadn't noticed this on the TV news, but the London congestion charge is being raised by £10 for pre 2006 cars, thus hitting the poorest motorists:(
It doesn't affect me, but it will hit a large number of people very hard, because they will have to pay £21.50 instead of £11.50 to drive in the congestion zone area.
The congestion zone currently only applies from Monday to Friday.

I wouldn't care if they built a 20 foot doorless wall and dug a moat around London.0

This has been known about for some time, but doesn't it apply only to diesels? I think petrol cars are unaffected by this, but am happy to be corrected. Anything that helps curb the filth spewing out of old diesels is fine by me.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

It's any and all vehicles that are not Euro4 or cleaner.
So the filth spewing out of petrols may be curbed too.

IMHO the UK's approach to LEZs in not to stop pollution but to fill their coffers.
London especially - but it's also coming to a city near you soon.0 -

They will have to do no such thing London has a very good public transport system.0 -
One of the key points I heard earlier on the news is that this new charge also applies to motorcycle who currently pay no charge and the fine for failing to pay on time is about £130.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Motorcycles appear not to be affected

Still unsure on how charging more money reduces the air pollution - if Khan really had a set of balls, he would just ban the pre Euro IV cars.0

Agreed
It will apply, relatively speaking to a very small amount of (poor) people.0
