This thread has certainly opened my eyes about UGG-style and UGG-brand boots.

Anthea - I don't know if you're aware of this but I've read somewhere that you need to buy a size smaller than you would normally wear.
That's confirmed by my sister who was bought a pair from Australia (UGG-brand) in a size smaller and they fit OK.

As for the 'nasty' comments - that was highlighted by ljandk (who seems to make a habit of posting 'nastily' herself) in reponse to Oliver14's reply to bpromoter12.
To anyone who uses this forum regularly it was obvious that bpromoter12 was clearly spamming.
In fact, bpromoter12's post has now been removed and remains only as a quote in Oliver14's post #4.

I would have responded similarly to bpromoter12 - and have done so to a number of spammers - I also hit the SPAM button.

It's very annoying when the forums are inundated with adverts for shoes or whatever, or someone pops up with a glowing review for a product or retailer which is patently poorly disguised advertising (against MSE rules).
As a poster on a number of different forums, it gets easy to spot them.

I do appreciate that some replies can be a bit tetchy but you have to read them in the context of the thread and (imho) in this case you jumped on the 'rudeness' bandwagon with little cause - as you have since acknowledged. ;)

Belated welcome to MSE - I'm sure you'll get lots out of it. :)

And I hope you manage to find your grand-daughter a good pair of UGGS.

The problem with Australian Websites and Uggs really came about as the boot was growing in popularity. When I first started wearing them some years ago you couldn't buy the 'Ugg Australia' brand in the UK. This meant that the only option at the time was to buy online. A lot of websites existed that sold Uggs, but as has been established, Uggs are a generic name for a sheepskin boot and Ugg Australia is a brand.

Incidentally, I'll say at this point that after buying 4 pairs of Uggs I bought myself a cheaper pair of actual Australian Ugg boots (Ugg Australia are made in China I note) which are 100 times better, harder wearing and comfier than Ugg Australia. Lesson learned and I really wouldn't buy another branded pair.

Anyway, I digress. With the popularity of the boot you now don't need to buy online. Many high street retailers sell Uggs now, and with the sizing issues you may be best taking your Grand Daughter on a shopping trip. Office, John Lewis and Foot Asylum are just 3 of the many stores that sell them. I believe there is also an Ugg outlet at the Cheshire Oaks shopping Centre.

Here is a list of Authorised Online Ugg Retailers, if its not on there, they are not Ugg Australia:

And here is one for the high street:

    Good luck
    :)

Was there any need for that remark to bpromotor? Or don't you have anything else better to do?

Many thanks for that pollycat. I passed that message to my granddaughter who, sensibly, now thinks it's best to go and try them on (and many thanks to pulliptears for that advice too). Apart from John Lewis we also have a new trendy shop (chain, I think) called T-reds where you can go and try footwear and they'll order it in if the colour/size you need isn't in stock. She apparently bought her 'Converse' there, so it's a thumbs up for them I guess!

And yes, sorry, I see your points about spammers, etc and I'm guilty of not reading topics/threads properly too, but I'll make sure I do that in future - please bear with me!

And many thanks for your warm welcome. I hope I'll be able to contribute as much as you all do. You're all very knowledgeable - I'm really impressed!

AntheaB, once you've established what size your grandaughter needs, keep an eye on amazon - a couple of weeks back I (and some other eagle eyed forumites!) got a pair of grey cardi ugg australia branded ones for £45. They had black ones too, genuine, certificated, real deal ones! They tend to come up only in certain colours and sizes at various times, but as I say, keep an eye.

Yes, I definitely will take a look at Amazon. I'm a great fan. Not sure about everyone else, but I've never been able to fault Amazon for reliability and customer service, but I guess that's something I should post elsewhere. I promise I will learn (eventually)!

I've always been pleased with Amazon's service too, Anthea, you'll find lots of threads on them on here - both positive & negative.

If you're interesting in cooking etc, check out the Old-Style Money Saving board - there's lots of good recipes (especially for the slow cooker) as well as tips on cheap way to clean (instead of using proprietry products).

Many thanks Pollycat. I'll definitely take a look at the old-style money saving board, especially with regards cleaning. Some years ago, when my eldest daughter was very young, she suddenly developed eczema, and we finally worked out it was the products being used for cleaning at her school. Couldn't do anything much about that of course, but I did stop using chemicals and polishes at home, just using chamois leathers and such, so that particular Board will be very interesting. Thanks again.
  • im thinking of buying some ugg boots online....there are some cheap websites out there ,and i cant imagine for one minute they are real, but i could not afford real ones..just would like to know if anyone has bought off of these sites ,and if so ,did ,they arrive, were they nice, and did you get charged for shipping ,because the site i am looking at says no shipping fee..is that to good to be true..

*If* they get past customs without being impounded and eventually destroyed, they will be low quality and not last. Oh and if they do get through customs you may well get a VAT/duty bill in the post too.
I'm not a fan of Uggs, but you can see the fakes people wear and they tend to look even worse, soles heavily worn down quickly etc.
Seriously, don't support the !!!!! people that make this crap.
