New home but EDF won't allow me to switch.

Hi all, I moved into a new property (private renting) 29th September. We didn't know who our electricity supplier is so did an online search and saw a good deal with E.on.
Signed up and they said they would do the switching process. Received a letter today stating EDF have refused the switch. This is confusing considering I don't have an account with them.
Is there anything else I need to do? They seem to charge over £300 more a year so I don't want to pay over the odds either.

Contacting EDF and asking why would be a good start.0

They, by law, are the incumbent supplier for the property and you are in a deemed contract with them and have to pay them for any energy you use. You need to contact them, give your details and readings at date of taking over the property. You cannot switch away until you have done that.
