Orangecrush, I meant west Leeds, not east hence me mentioning Pudsey and Rodley - I just got a bit muddled as I was typing whilst trying to feed my toddler! I’ve now edited my initial post, changing east to west... West Leeds would definitely be easier to commute to Bradford from than south Leeds. Pudsey, for example, is very, very close.
I still stand by my “£100k too short” comment. My experience of estate agent speak is that “north Leeds” comprises of LS17 and the better parts of LS8 and LS7 alone. Weird, I know, as true north Leeds encompasses far more areas, but the term “north Leeds” is largely used to describe only a small part of it. So if the OP is focussing on those areas, then they’re miles off, financially speaking, especially if they want something in decent condition. If the OP is open to other, lesser exclusive areas in north Leeds, but not in “north Leeds” (if you know what I mean) then they may also want to look at some parts of LS16, LS18, LS19 and LS20, but beware some of these areas are quite far out of the city centre.0 -
I'm in what's generously termed Headingley, but is actually Hyde Park - but it's a three bed for less than £150k, with the biggest kitchen we saw while house hunting, so I'm not complaining! Hyde Park and burley are where most of the student houses are, and into the edges of Kirkstall and Headingley, but actually North Headingley is very young professionals these days. The cafes are always full of yummy mummies! You just want to stay off the Otley run (though if you're planning to have kids, you wouldn't want to be on the busy road anyway).
If you're commuting to Bradford, though, I'd definitely look more at West Leeds. A couple of friends who teach in Bradford got a gorgeous four bed on the edge of Bramley Park. There's a couple of three beds here and here, and there's some new builds going up in the area too.Mortgage

Well let's see in the next few months and especially after Christmas what £250k gets us. As we're in no rush and many have advised here to keep looking. Once we've actually seen what our budget can buy us then perhaps we'll need to look in various areas. Right now there is hardly any housing coming out so perhaps it's not a true reflection of area?0

Guys just quick update and query; we’re still looking in Leeds area now but definitely more North Leeds. However for the kind of perfection house and extra large space we want realistically it just isn’t happening in the price range in this area 😩 We’re feeling like something has to give?! Seems like with premium postcodes the jump is almost £20-50k! Is it worth it? Or start in a decent area and work your way upward to the area say in 5-10 yrs?

Lovely house however need to know why it’s priced low/is it the area? The estate agent gave us rubbish answer of not being from the area so was clueless0 -
Charlotte - That house is in the outskirts of Seacroft. Its sometime since I was last there but that particular area of Seacroft seems OK.
The house itself looks very nice.0 -
It’s not bad but I certainly wouldn’t say “cheap” for where it is. I looked at a couple on that estate before buying where I did.
Have you not seen these two, much more desirable in postcode snobbery terms i.e. LS7 Chapel Allerton & LS17 Moortown (Although these two are probably less than half a mile apart). And both cheaper than the Seacroft one.

Would agree with tykesi that I would much prefer those two areas than LS14.
Have you looked at Farsley / Rodley / Pudsey, especially if one of you is travelling to Bradford and the other to Leeds. There should definitely be houses in your price range there.0 -
Ahh I see. I’m really wondering whether these agents are playing the fact that we’re not from Leeds. When I asked him what area this comes under he said LS8! Which obviously it isn’t
We actually went to see the Carr manor road one but the condition of the house was too old. And the driveway was very narrow and steep. Only one car space. The family had clearly tried to refurbish it but it needed to be stripped out and started again in my opinion. And very ‘lived’ in house showing signs of wear and tear everywhere. Pictures were very deceptive to be honest.0 -

We’re going to view this house later on in week. Any views on this area please?0 -
Estate agents will absoutely play on the fact you're not local. Their job is to sell for the vendor not find you a nice place. They tried it on with me not realising I knew York as I'd sold my house and moved in with my boyfriend in Lincoln so had a Lincoln address. They told me an area known to flood had never flooded. It would of course have come out in seraches etc. but by then time and money would have been invested.
Moortown is ok, I had friends there but can't recall exactly which bit they were in.Officially in a clique of idiots0
