Really angry with Postal strike

Hey lets not think about all the small business that could go under because of the strikes.
I work for a mail order company and yes people can phone the orders in but I can't send them anywhere unless I want to pay silly amounts in courier fees and loose loads of money.
So Royal Mail are cheaper than the compitition? Maybe they could raise their prices to match & use the extra income to avoid a strike?0 -
I wonder how much additional mail will never get delivered "lost in the system" during this period, over and above the shocking amount they "lose" normally...0

just had our mail delivered 13:13. it is normally delivered at 11:30 - the people involved in this business should be ashamed.
is this progress? a few years ago we used to have two deliveries, the first before i left for work - 08:00. it was also 50% cheaper to send mail and 99.6% of first class mail was delivered next day. what has happened leighton/crozier?
with employment law as it is there is no reason to pay fat cat union bosses money to call the obligatory strike over pay."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
I used to work at royal mail sorting office in kent when i was in the university 2 years back. I was employed as causal worker and given work only when regular staff was off sick.........lucky me........I had work all seven days a week......becoz......out of the 30 odd staff atleast 2-3 were always on sick leave......inspite of having other job opportunities....we students always is to prefer laborious royal mail job....coz no body was there to supervise us and quite often we would get 3-4 hours extra pay we were contracted for just for playing darts in the staff room....becoz some driver did not stick to his schedule and is late with collections.
To sum it all, royal mail staff have a very important and responsible job and majority of them are good workers. But overall the work ethic is quite poor and some of them are too consumed in increasing their rights and benefits, that they have forgotten their main responsibility ....which is to work.0 -

English was not on the curriculum at your Uni, I take it.

Less junk mail for me then

Seriously though, does anyone actually mail stuff these days? I thought that was why the internet was becoming popular! If some workers want to go on strike and ruin their own company then its fine by me. Hope they all get sacked like 99% of the rest of us would be if we had a staged 'sit in' in our workplaces.Save save save!!0 -
Suppose I should tell my boss...I am going on Strike. Since my salary hasn't been changed since April 2006!!!!!!!0

Problem for us money savers is that we do have to rely on the Royal Mail sometimes.
Finally got some of my post backlog this am, including details of my maturing Bald Brummy Midshires Bond (it's an Alan Partridge thing, no offence).
I then have to POST my instructions on what to do with the money (GEB, no thanks) back to BM.
BM kindly offer to pay my money into a bank account of my choosing but only if I shell out £35  . Otherwise, they will POST me a cheque.
So given the indefinite industrial action by our posties, when am I ever going to see that?
The Northern Wreck saga made me think hard about having a contingency in case of problems with internet access, now the Royal Mail kamikaze mission makes me think I had better open more accounts at branches I can actually walk to.
Thank god for cash machines, saviours of the universe

Liz - have had the same thing happen; am waiting for my AVC pension money from Winterthur. Will have to be posted or they charge for ordinary bank transfer - £25 - not even CHAPS. I'd have thought in this day and age they'd prefer to do bank to bank.0
