Flight to Bali

The wife has a friend getting married in Bali (don't ask) next September.

For a solo traveller, is there an optimum time to book? Decent flights are around the 8-900 pound mark presently. Do they drop in price and then rise say 6 months out...or is it generally much of a muchness? Cheers.

There is no way to tell what prices will do and there is no good time to book really for long haul. Short haul sooner the better but with long haul you can never tell what prices will do

Might be good to look on skyscanner and check prices over the year to get an idea what a good price is

As the OP's wife is looking to travel in almost a year's time, I'd hope that it would be more stable by then.

I'm looking at flights to Bali around that time next year but my choice will be ruled by layover time rather than price.
I'd rather pay more for 2 or 3 hour wait in HK or wherever than pay less for a 8+ hour wait.
But it depends on your wife's priorities.

You can hope, but it may not have stabilised and travel insurance may exclude known ash cloud risks.

There's always the chance that the wedding plans might hit the fan.

Plus flight schedules can change, which could make flights with convenient times totally the opposite.

I'd leave it until about 4 months before the event, it's not as though there won't be seats available.

And you could also consider using Bangkok as a gateway, and look for a cheap Air Asia or other LCC to get you to Bali.

i can't remember where I read it, long haul flight start getting expensive once it pass 100 days from departure.

If you work on that premise, it would exclude lots of destinations.
