financialbliss wrote: »3. The riddler. Mortgages can be boring at the best of times, never mind a diary. I’ve devised a little teaser formula to break into this aim. You need to work out ? and subsequently guess what’s going on for this one:
Formula: ? x 2 +1 , ? x 7 + 5 , (? / 3 * 6) –1 , (? ^ 2) + (? * 2) + 1 , ? – 6 , ? + 3
Note: I’ve been working on background for this aim for a number of weeks and for reasons beyond my control, it may not be practical to start / achieve this goal. May sound a bit cryptic at the moment, but things will become clear over time…
Well it seems unfair to have JonnyBravo thinking alone, but I doubt that'll stop him
So, FB, your typical MO is to provide dates and the pattern above is in 6 parts, so it could be xx/xx/xx
If this is the case then ?-6 would have to be at least 0 i.e. ?=6
Which would give:
6 x 2 +1 , 6 x 7 + 5 , (6 / 3 * 6) –1 , (6 ^ 2) + (6 * 2) + 1 , 6– 6 , 6 + 3
or, resulting in:
13, 40, 11, 49, 0 ,9
So it can't be a set of dates...
Now I had thought about ages of the family, child, wife, child, you then... 09 stumped me in terms of significance and you said Mrs FB wasn't in this...
Is this any warmer?0 -

Stuart - the year is 09 - could that be of significance?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

StuartGMC / GallyGirl,
You're both heading in the right direction. Check your maths (you've got some numbers right) and think outside the box a bit - I'm in IT - may perhaps be a clue

FB.
Well Stuart only got one sum wrong as far as I can see.....
13, 47, 11, 49, 0, 9
is what I got....
Still not got a scooby on whats going on though.0 -
ahhhh yes...... there's light on in my head.....
if you pay off 13k you end up at 47k mortgage and if you pay off 11k you end up with a mortgage of 49k in '09!!!
Do I win?
:j
Later thoughts....
But isn't this then just the same aim as no. 1? And the maths isn't quite right as you start at 59.5 not 60..... hmmmm.....0 -
Oops. Ok, no hate mail / PMs please...
I've managed to type up one element of the formula incorrectly...
Got no idea how I managed to do that, although I put a power calculation in there instead of just add and multiply, so perhaps I mis-typed it as I was drafting up the 2009 aims post. Formula should be:
Formula: ? x 2 +1 , ? x 7 + 5 , (? / 3 * 6) –1 , (? ^ 2) + ? + 5 , ? – 6 , ? + 3
and earlier guesses of ? being 6 are correct.
Sincere apologies everyone...

Hi FB:kisses3:
Yours is the only diary that I ready (sorry to the other Diaryists). I've been reading it since you started.
When I started reading your diary we didn't have any extra cash to throw at the mortgage. However, since June 2008 we kept our morgage payments ag £400 per month once interest rates started dropping. Our mortgage is BBR + 0.50% with the Abbey. The extra amount doesn't come of the balance but is paid into a holding 'savings account.' I think it affects the interst though? Our mortgage will finish 21.01.2030 and is £40,000 interest only and £29,000 repayment (for those who might be interested:rolleyes:).
I wouldn't have thought to stick our payments at £400 if I hadn't been reading your diary [creeping emoticon];). And I'm actually thinking of paying the £75 admin fee to change our mortgage to total repayment (still Hmming and Ahhing about this). Another thing I was inspired to do was to manage my mortgage account online:T, though I only started to do this since last month. I have also worked out, using the Egg Mortgage online calculator, what our mortgage payments would be at 4.50%, 5.50% right up to 10.50% on a repayment basis as, I believe, interest rates wont stay low forever (this maybe a shock to some people to hear:eek:). Maybe this is why I haven't changed the mortgage to totally repayment yet:think:.
Well, I just popped in to say hi, and will now go back to lurking:D.
By the way _party_HAPPY NEW YEAR:beer::j I hope my comment helps :T0
