I may have to make it my strategy to pull my money out of any company you say you have investments with!
Obviously I am reading after the effect but my heart leapt into my mouth when you said you'd gone with Kaupthing whatsit.....
I do hope that your money is safe and I'm sorry to poke fun. You've had an awful time this year investment wise haven't you?
Must say, I did like the mental image of you in dresses gloves and handbags on the other thread, I chortled away to myself last night when I read it!
Happy birthday diary, heres to the next year!

  • Thanks again everyone for the support :j

@Kaz2904 - Yes, I've not had a particularly good year investment wise. Spent a lot of time this week on the Savings and Investments forum. The government seem to be going to extraordinary lengths to calm the markets / savers and looks like our savings will be guaranteed / ok.

People have reported that they're now able to transfer out of Kaupthing Edge. I'm currently not too stressed about this - may try a £500 transfer out next week to settle my own mind that we can transfer out. Trouble is that if we do decide to ditch Kaupthing Edge / ING Direct for a UK based bank, I'm not sure where to go to right now. Some research needed...

With you reaching £30k at the end of the fix, offsetting may be worth looking at at that sort of sum as you could then be sure if the bank goes under they'll simply pay offset against mortgage and you'll be left with the difference?

If it makes you feel any better, or at least not alone, our ISA S&S funds are presently down 48%. Still going ahead with scheduled monthly purchases until the end of December to get some pound-averaging improvement and we're getting 50% more units per month than in June. Of course, these are long term of us (10yrs) and it could all go pear shaped with the present situation. I don't think I've ever watched so much of Bloomberg and the business news on the BBC as I have this past 6 months!

    Hi shopgirl,

    Thanks for the thanks...

Just a wild stab in the dark, but your birthday wouldn't be on 25th December would it?

Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Do you get birthday presents or does you birthday get rolled into or "forgotten" in all that is Christmas?

I'm not particularly fond of my birthday date - in early January - I'd rather have one in the summer sometime!

OK, I should be doing the dishes right now, but I told Mrs Bliss that I was just going to, ahem, quickly check my e-mail and that was 45 minutes ago :rotfl:

    Hopefully, I'll be back later...

  • It's a good thing...I love it! I always get birthday and Christmas presents, so I suppose I'm very lucky!:D

January isn't a great month I suppose - perhaps you could have 2 birthdays - one in the summer. If it's good enough for the Queen...
