On Ebay, I always pay via Paypal.

I have only ever had one issue with a CC, a duplicated transaction in Florence which Egg actioned and removed.

    Stuart, RosieTiger,

Good suggestions on potential places I may have had my card details taken from. For petrol, our nearest petrol station is an Asda less than a mile away. This has automated pumps, so I don't think it was that.

For Ebay, yes I do use Paypal too.

More bizarrely, I've returned form work this evening to a delivery note from Comet showing that two IPODs were ordered and they paid extra for courier delivery. Has a mobile contact number on which I don't recognise.

We have had a similar experience twice within two months when getting new credit cards.

The transactions were in Australia, so we could prove we hadn't purchased anything, but I am very worried now - what if you can't prove that you didn't purchase something? We even had a fraudulent transaction using the pin number!

In Wales we have a new police department called ECrime Wales. They have given us a good (free ) internet security software and other things to try and keep us safe.

I am pleased that you have a good response from the bank the second time round!!

I thought I had had my identity stolen when a woman contacted me on Facebook to tell me she had the same name as me - all three names and they are not popular ones either. She was born in the same year as well. Of course I had to go and do some searching on her, just to check she hadn't taken on 'me'.

earthgirl, don't worry about being in the same place as the fraudulent transaction. Just think about insurance claims and how they find the false claimants. There's a reason why you have to call and/or write to the bank ;)

Off to check my card statements now! :rotfl:

Barclaycard: reported it to the Police today and got an incident number.

Also got our new cards, which once we re-registered for internet access, showed that there were actually four fraudulent transactions on the account totaling £655. Filled in a dispute form and hopefully that will be the last of it. I'll try not to bore you further, but it's been an annoying distraction.

Mrs Bliss and I are out with a few friends this evening for a few drinks  - both kids are having a sleep over.

It is so worrying when it happens I had a problem each time a got a new Natwest Card. The fraudsters usually try to do a few small transactions -mine where on Napster before they go for the big one. I had train tickets to Italy and flights to the Philippines. Each time the bank alerted me and I had to phone my OH just to check he had not spent this money. All got sorted and I got a new card only for it to happen again. Now I just don't use that card.

Hope you have a relaxing night out.

Some fraudsters in Australia tried to use my debit card details. Luckily it was stopped by Nat West immediately and I had to get new card (what a pain). Also had quite a few transactions go through a Barclays account - got the money back from that no problem.

I have a credit card that I only use for online transactions - never had any trouble with that one.

Presumably if you don't check your bank accounts properly you might never know you got ripped off:confused:

Yikes, almost a week since I posted anything, so here goes. Quick post about money.

Budget. Didn't really get a chance to absorb much of this at the time. On the face of it, it doesn't appear to hold much for us in way of benefits, but according to the BBC budget calculator, here:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8008685.stm

it suggests that we will be better off by £121.96 a year in 2010 compared to 2009.

    Alcohol: -21.53
    Fuel: -42.59
    Income tax: +88.00
    National Insurance: +30.80
    Child benefits: +72.28
    Vehicle excise duty -5.00

    Total: 121.96

Pay claim - 2008. Arbitration concluded that we should have received 0.30% pay increase over and above the previous 2.45% accepted - total of 2.75%. I got this in my April pay - total gross income now £38,575 - an increase of £112. After tax, this was just short of a tenner a month extra.:j

Still due the 0.30% back pay for 12 months from April 2008 to March 2009. Should get this next month.
