Thanks for your post chirpchirp. Made me realise that while I'd selected a car type, I'd not ticked the box to "enable" the car, thus I wasn't seeing the fiver extra on the Vehicle excise duty.

Benefit now stands at £121.96 better off. I've edited the above post too.

Additionally, I meant to say I'd paid a token £25 off the mortgage last night as an on-line payment to soak up the extra income for the month.

I've tried to do these calculators a couple of times but it won't tell me the answer. I can't enter my car because I don't drive a car in their description, ie my cars were both bought before 2001 so are on the old tax system. I'm sure I'll be worse off though!

I was in the same position but the system still worked without enabling the car (since for my 2000 reg the budget made no difference.) Remember to tick the 'add spouse' box if you have one since I missed it first time, then entering their income details, and simply clicking 'calculate.'

Hey FB, I have just gone back to your first post and looked at your spreadsheet and graphs - their fantastic !
We use a spreadsheet which projects moving forward and have the historical stuff in a book - your graph has just inspired me to do the same and plot them all together !
    Thanks

    Hi RosieTiger,

Did you see the BoE base rate analysis - it's post 896 and also linked from post #1. I'll have a "spring clean" on post #1 every so often and I've recently added a link to the BoE rate analysis.

I've decided to track this for the remainder of my mortgage term, as I'm expecting that I'll drop onto a SVR once I come off the fix - expecting the base rate to ramp back up as quickly as it came down once we finally see green shoots of growth.

On a lighter note.... congrats on passing thru 1000 posts in your diary!

    :T

    Hi JonnyBravo,
Just re-checked and I got post number 1,000. Didn't realise at the time.:o

What I find more amazing than the 1,000 diary posts is that I've just noticed that I've had over 1,000 "thanks" for the posts I've been making.

Thanks again everyone for reading and saying "thanks..." :D

  • Well, I’m making steady progress, but there’s still a big hill to climb, so with than in mind, I didn’t miss the opportunity to collect £25 for opening a savings account with ING Direct.

This is a scheme where if you open a savings account with ING Direct with £1 or more and use a promotion code and ID from someone else who already has an ING Direct account, both the existing and new account opener both receive £25. This offer is open until 30th May 2009.

My mother recently got a mailshot with 3 of these promotional codes, so I opened an account this evening. Just need to fund the account with £1 to receive the £25 credit - I'll be sending off a cheque tomorrow.

Quick search on these MSE forums suggests that it’s not a new scheme and has been running at least since 2007 as I found an ING Direct thread dated August 2007.

I’ve still got two promotional codes remaining – these belong to my mother, but I guess ING don’t really care where you get the promotional code from – they’re just looking for new business.

So, if you’ve not been an ING Direct customer before and would like to earn £25 for opening an account, PM me and I’ll pass on a remaining code. I’m sure my mother will appreciate an extra £75, should I pass on both of the remaining codes.

Note that as I’ve only got two codes remaining, it's first come first served.

    Thanks,
    Financial Bliss.
