Though shortly to be paying £156.

True, but I'm still very happy with that for the level of breakdown cover I have, covering the vehicle size, age and weight of all the things I do Europe wide is a good deal as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for all the help. I just spoke with the AA and I'm probably a mug but I got it reduced to £23 per month. That includes:

Breakdown at home (which is where I've always needed help in the past)
Relay cover (taken to any garage of my choice)
Parts and labour up to £500

    (I think that's it)

The home start is something I'd really like and the AA guy managed to convince me that I might be able to get cover for under £10 but I simply wouldn't get the same benefits and might even have to change banks (I know, I know...).

How much truth is there in this (please go easy on me!;))

Damn it! I'm paying £420 per year for an old Citroen C4 that I only drive around town at weekends!! :o

I wouldn't bother with any breakdown cover for that sort of driving.

This will be the service bumping up the premium. I'm with the AA and they tried the old second year charge you over double the amount, so I just rang them up argued a bit an got it back down to the £11 pcm I had last year for my joint cover for relay/homestart. (I considered swtching to RAC for less but I've had such great service with AA)
Swagbuckling since Aug 2016 - Earnings so far.. £55.

Homestart and relay, about £40 per year with autoaid and others. You're paying a premium for £500 parts and labour cover. Your choice but I certainly wouldn't and I doubt many others do.

Taking advice from the AA about which cover to take is daft. Complete nonsense about changing banks and none of their business.

Either cancel now or put a note in your diary to avoid auto renewal.

    OP, please look at this:
    https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/

They do three types of breakdown cover. The top type includes home start. It's £13.50 per month. That's what you have.

The parts and labour thing is separate to the breakdown cover.

In addition to breakdown cover, you're paying for an insurance policy that provides £500 parts and labour cover for car problems. They are charging you £10 per month for that. Now, it's up to you if you think that's worth it. It's costing you £120 a year - unless you use it to the full £500 value once every four years, it's costing you money. These type of policies often have a lot of exclusions. You could put £10 a month aside in a car maintenance fund instead and use it if the car needs any work doing.

Leaving that aside, the AA's price for breakdown incl national recovery and home start can be beaten elsewhere - shop around with the suggestions above.

Unbelievable when you can get similar cover for less than £3 per month. And if you put £20 a month away to cover parts and labour it would soon add up and may not be required.

Does anybody know of any affordable breakdown cover where that actually come out to your home with homestart, as opposed to covering the cost? The reason I ask is that although I have a very trusted garage, they don't do home calls and I wouldn't want to get anybody else out...

Depends what you call affordable really. As I said previously, I'm happy paying £120 (yes, soon to be £156) a year to my bank for total cover.

I guess I mean cheaper than what I'm paying now, which is £23 per month which covers relay, homestart and the first £500 in parts and labour. I could do without the last one, but the homestart I'm particularly keen to keep and, for example, autoaid don't actually come out, they just cover the cost.
