There is NO guarantee of ANY claim being successful.
    'Nuff said! :)
  • Thank you for your posts. I got the fishing letter from Commitments this morning and checked it out on here. It is now fuel for my wood burner. The only paper that’s going up in smoke!
  • I have just had one of these letters
Don't bother ringing any of the numbers because you will NOT get through, I know because I have spent 15 minutes on the various options.
BUT I have found a solution if you navigate to their "contact us" page you can type away.
I used a fake email address and a fake telephone number the only real thing was the address, i.e. where the letter was posted to, saying "do not send any more letters to this address".
The reason for the fakes I do not want them getting in touch again.
  • Sorry to hijack your thread but my husband and I are in the same situation with the same company. We paid the initial £820 and were told we wouldn't need to pay anything else however 6 months later they phoned saying they were ready to take it to the next level of solicitors and would need to pay £599 more and we said no. I asked for my money back which I was told I'd get if they didn't win the claim. I'm being told now that I need to pay £714 which is £599 +vat to continue and if we don't win we don't get anything back. I've said I won't pay more money but they're constantly pestering me and my husband for this money. Is there anything I can do? I have the one piece of paperwork my husband signed when we paid the £820.
I don't know if this is going to land in the correct place but we too got ripped off by these for over £1500 about 5 years ago, they did nothing, been trying to get in touch with them for over a year and got no replies, got a phone call last November from a company called Lawcost saying commitments had gone into liquidation and they had been passed all of their customers details to try and get them some money back, they made an appointment for one of their agents to call me at a later date, I decided to Google "lawcost" and discovered that it has the same directors as cpl and very similar addresses! When they called I asked them if they were connected to cpl and he denied it, I then asked why the two companies both had the same directors ? He got very aggressive towards me and eventually refused to talk to me and then put the phone down on me !
Lawcost called me back again a few weeks later with the same story about cpl going into liquidation blah blah and they wanted to make an appointment for an agent to call me to discuss helping us get some money back, I told her that I thought that they were just commitments been rehashed but she denied any knowledge, admitted she was only a young girl and she said she had only just started working for them, she put the phone on mute and then came back saying she didn't know what else to say, I did feel a bit mean as I was quite harsh with her .. as she couldn't answer my questions I asked her to put me through to someone that could, she said she couldn't do that, so I asked that she got someone higher up to contact me to discuss my queries with .. two months on and I'm still waiting ... !!
Has anyone else been contacted by lawcost ?

  • Block their number and stop talking to them before you get ripped off yet again.

We're definitely not falling for it again, once bitten and all that, we are taking it further so just trying to find others that are in the same boat with cpl and now lawcost
  • Ah, the infamous Commitments Protection cancel, John Maher, Paul Hunt and others. They are all guilty as sin and have made fools of you all. They are equally liable and you must not let them off the hook. John Maher drives around in his plush Range Rover when he should be running a wheel barrow. Hunt lives in a mansion with a private gym and swimming pool. The two of them state they are ex-marines. Like we would like to believe them. They are a pair of obese bullfrogs without a ounce of decency between them.
Report them to the Ministry of Justice

Report them to The Financial Services Compensation Scheme
