is that 7k over any specific length of time?

3-4 years with 100-120K added to the clock by the end of it, if its a few years old chances are it'll be pretty much driven into the ground. Like the current one when i'm done with it.

I am adding another vote for the S60 - I do 35,000 a year and I miss the one I had last time. The most comfortable seats in the world at any price car - even after 8 hours drive. The ride is good too with a nice chunky safe feeling to it. Most BMW can be a bit skittish and hard riding for motorway use, also a bit cramped. In the S60 you can lounge around. The D5 was economical and had brilliant pull at motoway speeds so when (if) someone moved over you could blast past before they pulled out again and get on your way. All Volvo's are well equipped and even a 'base' S usually has cruise control, climate control etc (always look for a car with winter pack - autowipers and heated seats great) Finally the Police still use a huge amount of S60's as unmarked cars so you have the endless fun of slipping on a flourescent safety jacket to drive in and watching people wet themselves as they look across when overtaking you too fast!

People may snigger, but don't write off the good old Mondeo. Have a look on Honest John, by all means. Long term value for money, they are unbeatable, and as for driveability, well, just trawl through any of the websites, Parkers, Honest John etc. Almost any model would do, just sort out which would suit you best. When you've finally decided what to buy, and how much to spend, just pop back and see how much the equivalent Mondeo would be, and ask yourself if it can possibly be justified, other than snob value.

BMW 320d has a history of turbos blowing up. It needs fresh synthetic oil far more often than the variable service interval suggests.

Seems a bit harsh, really. Never had a diesel, so don't know, but petrol ones are not half bad. As I say, my opinion counts for nothing, but a trawl through the relevant websites turns up nothing but good. After all, they are designed and built precisely for motorways, as most of them are company cars. That in itself ought to be a recommendation, no company wants a fleet of lemons....
  • I agree the petrol ones are brilliant. And quite good on fuel too. 2.0 16v can easily get to late 30's.

The later TDCi's are ok, cos they are the Peugeot/Volvo unit. Ford ditched their own.
We love buying/selling Mondeo td's, but they are so hatefully bad!
