mine must be tiny cause i chose the latter for a motorway car since i got myself a bmw 740, its very civilised to have the motor tick over at 80.

I'm mostly amused at the people with the big one's who try overtake me to take an exit, then realise they're not going to make it and brake hard then pull off behind me (they must have some sort of inferiority complex when they see an old skoda hurtling along at 75mph). I don't speed up or slow down, they just obviously have problems judging the speed of other cars, or their car really isn't as good as they think when they stick their foot down. And these drivers all seem to drive the same types of cars, won't name brands lol. I really can't understand this "I must overtake them" attitude. Motorways do seem to attract lots of the "I do own the road" type of people.

How about a rover 75/MG ZT diesel, I've got a ZT-t (estate) diesel, car drives great, has a very good reputation (best Rover for quality by a mile, and I think cam 20 something in top gear/JD power review) engines last for ever, very comfortable, looks a little different, and is very reasonably priced even with all the toys. On a motorway run you'll get 40-50mpg depending on model.

i freely admit i can drive like a pr!ck but not judgeing speeds isnt one of the reasons, i learnt the road on big motorbikes so now look well ahead to spot trouble and still take a defencesive line. oddly i tend to drive slower, partly due to fuel costs but mostly cause i know i have a monster so dont worry about needing to accelerate out of trouble.

re the brand of cars well there aint a lot of manufacturers who produce reliable V8's and while they are usually premium brands the premium people pay provides r&d which makes its way into mainstream cars about 10 years later. that said i wouldnt get a post 94 merc or any of the new !!!!!! bimmers.

Thanks i am really liking the look of the 93 turbo diesel, they are well priced and the owners seem to love them. It looks like it would be ideal for the work run is it the 2.2 diesel or the 1.9 ? The 2.2 seem to be a bit more thirsty according to the stats on parkers guide.

The 2.2 is an old engine and suffer with intercooler problems, which lead to turbo failure. Also, not the most refined engine to be honest!

The 1.9 is nippy, but it's the Fiat unit. nuff said...

And there was me thinking I was just asking about decent diesel cars, with decent engines, that are good for a long distance drive everyday and that would make a good company car. I've no real preference yet just wanted some advice so that I don't end up paying the earth in service bills, fuel and all the other wear and tear and figured this was a good place to ask  for any extra advice having trawled parkers and honest johns website for info and since most people on here seem to have some worthwhile input.
