BA Flights Long Haul - Increased

In Sept , I looked at BA Flights to Vancouver and return from Calgary in May 2018 to get an idea of costs.

Looked again today at the same flights and it appears they increased by approx 30%.::(

Is it likely they will stay at that or increase further. As I will not be in a position to book them until end of November.

  • Someone with more knowledge of this route might be able to offer an educated guess, but in short: nobody can say. Probably not even BA, because it depends on how the flight sells over the next few months, and how the competition on that route sets its prices.

All that said, in your position I would wait. I've flown long-haul a fair bit over the last few years and my experience is that although prices may fluctuate, I've always been able to get what I consider to be a reasonable price up until about a month before the flight. (Things may vary at very busy times, like Christmas and other big holidays.)

You might try plugging the dates into Kayak. It has a graph that recommends whether you should buy or wait.

Unfortunately prices fluctuate all the time. I’ve seen huge increases that stick and ones that drop considerably. It’s very hard to judge what prices will do.

Wait till the end of November, then check prices until you find a price you are happy with. As mentioned Kayak is a good tool that you can get notification alerts of prices. If you are ok to fly ex EU, Dublin usually offers cheaper prices, than flying direct from the UK.

Although no one can be certain, BA normally have a sale starting at Christmas and running into January and fares may fall again but as others have said, it all depends on supply and demand and whether your dates cover either of the Bank Holidays, the later of which becomes the start of school half terms....
