Phone for 9yr old? Any ideas?

  • Hello - I know a lot of you have laughed at my comment about not getting a cheapie phone for a 9 year old but I stand by what I said. I vividly remember getting my first 'stereo' when I was 10 - I had wanted one for ages and would have been gutted if my parents had bought me a gramaphone type cheapie thing!!!;) - I honestly think a lot of kids when they grow up will remember the first phone they got - especially 9/10 year olds. My brother remembers his 'oric' or something computer with much fondness. My daughter loves her phone - she very rarely has credit on it but plays music, takes photo's and videos of her friends and swaps ringtones by blue tooth. We did have reservations about getting her such a good phone but she has had it for a year, takes great care of it and is really proud of her phone. We won't be upgrading for a few years but all in all it was well worth the money - it wasn't the most expensive phone ever anyway - only cost 90 odd quid. You can get an equivalent phone for under £50 pounds now. We would have spent a lot more than that on a bike if she had needed/wanted a new one. She didn't want anything else for her birthday and we didn't want to disappoint her. We don't see anything wrong with getting a responsible 9 year old a phone if they have their heart set on one.

My 8 year old daughter has a mobile phone for when she goes to sleep at granny's or a friends so she can stay in touch with us.

Its mainly for photo s etc but she loves being able to text her older brothers and sisters etc.

By the way she wants a laptop for christmas - and guess what she ll probably get one.

I dont care what anyone thinks shes our daughter and we will do what we like.
