    I've been Money Tipped!
All the time. Always thank shop assistants, waiters, anyone that holds a door open for me. I always thank the bus driver and think it is rude when people don't.

I thank OH all the time too - when he makes me a cup of tea or cooks a meal etc

As little as possible. Just once. It is cringeworthy how polite people try to be nowadays.

They say sorry and thank you for things that are just completely unnecessary....

Interested to know how many people would reply to say 'no, never'. Seems a bit of a daft question really.

... But didn't see NineDeuce's post when I replied and I suspect that's the nearest we'll get to it, despite them saying that they do say thank you.

That's interesting! What times do you feel a thank you isn't needed?

Personally I try to say thanks as much as possible, it's just a simple way of brightening someone's day and making them feel appreciated :)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

    I think it's a great question.

If everyone said thank you in a totally sincere way the world may be quite a bit cheerier :)

    Like the people who say.....

"Oh thanks, thats great, cheers, that's lovely, brilliant, thanks a lot"

.....when all you have done is held a door open.

NB. I didnt advocate NOT saying thanks at all.

It is best to be polite if possible imo.

Personally - if I were in doubt as to whether it was appropriate to say "thank you" or no then I will say it and think that is advisable conduct all round.

I absolutely cringe if someone says "sorry" when they've done nothing wrong. Absolutely one should "sorry" if having done something wrong - but I can certainly think of something that people noticeably often apologise for recently when they most definitely have done nothing wrong and I absolutely will not apologise for it myself (ie because I've done nothing wrong).

    Me too. :T

I must admit I'm a bit scathing :o sometimes about the MMDs that are posted by MSE mods but I think this is a nice thread.

I'd much rather be thought 'cringeworthy' for being too polite than for being rude. :)

We were once 'told off' (in a nice way) by a taverna owner in Greece who said we shouldn't say 'thank you' to him as we were honouring him by visiting his restaurant.
That was a long, long time ago though and I guess attitudes may have changed. :D
