How often do you say thank you...?

To family, friends, work colleagues, shop assistants, restaurant staff etc? ::smileyhea

The subject came up at MSE Towers recently and we thought it would be a great question to ask on the Forum.

I should add the topic didn't come up due to anyone at MSE not using the phrase enough

I practice The Secret so I'm a little OTT with it really, but better that way than not at all. I think.

    Lots of times.
Probably too often - if that's possible.
When we order a meal, I'll give the menu back to the waiter and say 'thank you'.
When he brings the food, I'll say 'thank you'.
When they clear the table, I'll say 'thank you'.

I say 'thank you' when I get on a bus and show the driver my ticket.
I say 'thank you' when I get off.

I say 'thank you' when anyone holds open a door for me.
And if I do the same for someone else and they say 'thank you', I always say 'you're welcome'.
On the other hand, if I hold open a door for someone and they sail through without acknowledging me, I have been known to say - in a sickly-sweet voice and with a simpering smile - 'thank you so much for allowing me to hold the door open for you'.

I also say 'sorry' far too often.
When it's not actually my fault.
  • yep - every time it's due and that includes thanking the bus driver when I get off the bus (as long as they've not driven in an unsafe way or something - as has happened a few times recently - in which case total silence as I get off the bus).
