Car insurance problem! HELP PLEASE

I had this before, without the telematics thing though.
Accident was my fault, and although I'd just renewed policy a week or two prior to the incident they only gave me 30 days for find a new car to transfer insurance to or I'd lose it and be required to buy a completely new policy.
I told them 30 days would be too difficult to find a car. So I ended up in the last few days rushing a buying a car that eventually caused me so many problems (money pit).
I can't remember who it was with, but it was back in 2011. The reason they stated was that I was at fault and made successful claim, so they wouldn't refund me for a 11 months worth of insurance (as they'd lose out) or extend the policy suspension period.
I have dug through my insurance policy paperwork and no where in it does it mention a policy cannot be reinstated, instead it says full policy premium is due which i paid in full at the start.
they haven't even given me a deadline. just told me its a telematics policy we cannot reinstate it. we can only give you a new quote for a new policy. as you can imagine being a young lad in london new policies are coming up nearly 5 figures as i am having to declare insurance as at fault as it is currently pending and no claims bonus reduced to 0.
they did say if the claim was decided as not my fault, i will be given a refund for the period which they weren't able to provide me insurance for but to settle the claim could take months or a year or two depending on different scenarios, even then a liability or outcome of a claim shouldn't have any effect on them not being able to reinstate my policy.0 -
Sorry to jump on this thread, but I have an issue regarding NCD.
Back in Feb 2017 I was involved in a minor RTA. This went through our insurers with the lady claiming that I was at fault. However, I had video footage that her arm was injured prior to the RTA, therefore personal injury claim was thrown out. Tesco car insurance called to say they are closing the claim down and reinstating my husbands Ncb (he's the named driver on the policy), however since this incident we have changed insurers and they are not willing to add the NCB to our policy because our cooling off period has expired. The only option is to cancel the policy for £141 and start a new policy.
My question is if we do not cancel our policy will our ncd of 6 years be lost because of our current insurer only working on 3 years (he lost 4 years during the incident which has no been reinstate to 6 years)
Any help would be appreciated! 😁0 -

Hi all!
Just wanted to give you guys a quick update with this. My policy has now been reinstated obviously with the premium adjustment for the new car for the remaining period.
I had to send a complaints letter in and once it was allocated it was handled pretty swiftly with a lot of back and forth. Took around 25 days all in all. My complaints was based on the following points:
1) I was given wrong advise three times by three different staffs about being able to reinstate policy and receiving a reinstatement quote twice. After they listened to the telephone conversation, I was told this alone was enough for my complaint to be upheld as they shouldn't have provided me with a quote to reinstate the policy. The reason for this was because I am on a telematics policy and when a car is written off, their system does not allow for the barcode or whatever it is that is installed on my car to be transferred but if the accident was deemed not to be my fault the premium for the period where the cover wasn't provided for would be refunded.
My second point was that:
2) No where in the policy document does it state a telematics policy cannot be reinstated following a write off. I said it was deeply unfair I am not being allowed to transfer a significant proportion of third party liability cover that I had paid for onto the next vehicle as majority of the premium I paid for was not related to my car but third party risks. They agreed on this but also told me that usually when this happens they provide the person with a new quote and come to an agreement however in my case the prices were coming up 5 figures for a new policy.
Thanks all.0 -
hello could anyone kindly give me an answer to this question?
i am 41 years old but for the last 18 years i have had a company vehicle. i cannot rememeber who before this i had my motor insurance with all those years ago. would these few years of no claims all these years ago help towards a quote on my new personal motor insurance quote or being so long ago not be relevant and therfore have to start a new policy from scratch? i hope this made sense...many thanks0
