Car insurance problem! HELP PLEASE

Hi,

My car has been written off. We've agreed on a price and its been paid to me minus the excess.

My policy runs out mid next year. I rang my insurers to reinstate the policy and was initially given quote twice. The cars are no longer in market. So i rang again and now being told they cannot reinstate the policy as i am im telematics policy however they can give me a new quote for a full year.

My argument is that, if i have paid for the year i should be allowed to transfer the remaining of my insurance to any new car subject to increase/decrease in premium?

What happens at the end of the year? I currently hold X amount of NCB. Will i recieve X+1 NCB at the end of the policy year should it! be decided i am not at fault as I've paid for the policy for the full year? Or will i reveive the same number of NCB as at start of policy and be refunded for the period which I am not insured for?

What happens if i am decided to be at fault? Where does the remaining period of my insurance go if i have to buy new policy?

What do your insurance documents say about what happens to the policy in the event of a total loss/ write off?

Your argument would fail if put to the test

You should always check before buying a new car that it is acceptable to your insurer.

They are not bound to cover "any" car

If they don't "like" it then you either accept this and your policy gets cancelled or choose another car that they will cover

Your post is not very clear. Who is your insurer? Are they a broker or an underwriter?

If they're a broker, it may be that they're saying that your current underwriter will not cover the new car, full stop, but that they can offer you a new policy with a different underwriter. If so then unfortunately they're in the right - a new underwriter is effectively a hole other insurance company, and you cannot force your old insurance company to cover you for a car which they would not normally be willing to cover you to drive. (You should have checked this before you bought the new car - probably a bit late now)

Or they could be saying that as it's a telemetics policy they won't as a matter of principle, allow you to transfer it, even though it's a car your underwriter would normally be wiling to cover you for. In which case I'd think they're in the wrong - telemetics policies aren't subject to a completely different set of rules to a normal policy, though I suppose the insurer might be justified in requiring you to pay an additional fee for fitting the box to a new car.

Can you clarify exactly what they are saying?

My insurer is admiral/bell/elephant. No broker involved.

My car has been written off. I have 8+ months remaining before renewal.

I am being told they can't reinstate the policy as it is a telematics policy it has nothing to do with the car i am buying. We havent even reached that part yet.

I paid for the year in full at the start, my question is should i be allowed to transfer the remaining of my policy to a new car i will purchase? This is obv subject to increase/decrease in the premium.

Further more I am given contradicting informations such as i will recieve the no claimbonus at the end of the year if decided not at fault but no refund and cannot reinstate the policy. Another is we will refund you the premium for the remaining months if not at fault but cannot reinstate the policy .

My question is a claims liability or outcome should have no bearing on me being able to insure my car for the remainder of the policy?

I am being told to buy a new 12 month policy and pay for it in full.

    Any help?

As posted in #3 no insurer will guarantee to cover any model of car apart from the one that you originally cover.

Ask them what reason you cannot put a replacement car on the policy and take it from their reply

Is there anything in the policy wording regarding change of car??

Like i said, its nothing to do with the car. I am being told they cannot reinstate the policy because it id a telematics policy.

No where in the policy does it say a insurance cannot be reinstated following a total loss.

I think you might be confusing things by mentioning reinstating. You can only reinstate once cancelled. Has it been cancelled or just suspended?

    According to their (Admiral) website:-
What happens if I change my car?
The Littlebox in your old car will be remotely deactivated and we will arrange installation of a new Littlebox in your new car (charges apply)
