We've just booked flights for 2 weeks in Feb, planning on doing Bangkok, Chaing Mai and Phuket (with some day trips to other islands from Phuket).

If anyone has been how long would you stay in Bangkok, Chaing Mai.

Also is there a bus from Chaing Mai to Chaing Rai or would you need to fly? Is there muc`h to see/do in Chaing Rai/Mai.

Sorry for hijacking yout thread but would be a bit silly to start a new one when i'm after loadsa Thailand info too

  • Hi again

I've booked my flights going on the 23/12/07 to 12/01/08 costing £1800 for two of us including transfer flights to London Gatwick, overnight stay at Gatwick and our insurance so i'm quite happy with the price :)

Next plan is to start booking accomodation, we're still a bit hazy about which island we're staying at but are hoping to come up with a plan over the next week or so. Is there a recommended website for booking cheap accomodation in Thailand?

    Cheers x

Not everything is bookable via online booking websites.

But you can take a look at http://www.sawadee.com/hotels/ for comparative purposes.
  • Which ever island you plan to visit you will have a wonderful time. We all have favorite islands so really you need to decide for yourself. I am going to Koh Chang as its close enough from BKK to drive. My bro lives on Phi phi but I found it and Phuket too expensive. Chaing Mai is beautiful and cheap but not a bungalow on the beach affair, more jungle trecking, although Leks elephant orphanage is well worth visiting if you like that sort of thing. Koh Samed is good fun and you get to hang out with Bangkokians but its also pretty busy. Koh pangnan (cant spell) is pretty wild and known for its parties but the other end of the island is very quiet as everyone congretrates in the Had rin area. I personally loathed Pattaya and could not get out there quick enough but if you want to meet a really nice Thai girl this is the place to be. As two women travelling together we felt unsafe in Pattaya even with my bro as escort. So, my personal fav at present is Koh Chang but I am sure that will have changed since last year. Be sure you can always find a deserted beach on every island in Thailand. I would def book accom from 23 Dec to 3 Jan but you should be ok for rest of holiday. I live quite easily over xmas for £30 a day so I think your budget is reasonble.
