Some help re: Thailand please

hi there, me and my oh are looking to fly out to thailand for approx 3 weeks over christmas. We are going to have to do it seperately as all the package holidays are booked up and just from browsing websites it seems the far cheaper option. I'm just wondering is there any recommended way of doing this, where are the best places to visit during our stay and possibly the best, cheap accomodation to stay. Also how do we get from say Bangkok to Phuket? would we get an internal flight and if so how expensive are these.

Sorry for sounding like i know nothing but generally i don't :o. Any tips or advice would be massively appreciated.

Thanks in advance

xx

try skyscanner for flights. there are many low cost airlines in Thailand including air asia but also try Thai airways for flights to Phuket.
too many places to list on what to see but in BK - see the Golden Palace, Siam Center, MBK, Wat Po etc etc....and loads of night markets...
try a scenic way and get the train to Phuket. Its not a direct train think you have to use bus but any agent over there can book for you.

www.travelfish.org and the Thailand section will help you with EVERYTHING and www.bangkokbog.net is good as you will be flying there first.

Better off not doing a package anyway, with 3 weeks you can see a lot of a very beautiful country :)

Another option is to drive picking up a rental car at Bankok airport sat nav is avilable stoping of at Hua Hin or Cha Am for a few nights , you will need to book hotels well in advance , you may find this link of help http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/Weekly2006/weekly259.htm
  • We're looking at the 22/12/07 to the 12/01/08 nothing has been booked yet but looking to do so over the weekend. Thanks for your replies, some of those websites are great. I'll be getting plenty research done over the next few weeks!!!

For those dates, it would be advised to book your accommodation in advance.

Flight for dates close to yours aren't cheap at the mo. Looking at £750.

Three weeks is not a great deal of time. Fly from Bangkok to Phuket, if you intend to go to Phuket. It is not expensive.

You might want to use http://www.travelsupermarket.com/Default.aspx to check the best place for getting your outward flights, but I am afraid it is expensive on the dates you want, wherever you want to fly from. It's not just other people going out to Thailand, but it's the people that are going onto Australia etc(when you get off in Bangkok) that are making the flights busy and the same for the return and this shoves the price WAY up.

its worth buying the Lonely Planet Guide if your are planning your own trip...very useful info and the maps are good (you can have mine from last year if you wish if i ebay it!)
  • Thanks, gonna search for the best flights and plan an itinerary for the 3 weeks so i can start booking. 3 weeks is the longest amount i can get off work so although it a bummer it should be enough to catch some of the sights. I def wanna go to Phuket, Ko Samui and possibly visit Ko Phi Phi and Ko Phangan. We'll obv see bangkok as we'll be flying to and from there. Have a missed a good place out? Has anyone got a suggestion for the best order to visit these places.

Thanks again, don't worry i will research myself more thoroughly i just wanted some of your opinions.

Oh and flights are looking at about £1000 each from a quick browse this dinner, expensive but really want to do it!!
