This is because Amazon never use royal mail anymore, the most reliable postal/parcel delivery in the land... Cue lots of replies saying royal mail are poop, but nonetheless they are definite best if a bad bunch, amazon are the worst, moral of the story is, cancel you amazon prime account, and buy from a store where they use royal mail
umm yes they do.0 -

The majority of my orders come via Royal Mail. Mind you we live in a rural area without Amazon Logistics.
I find it incomprehensible to work out which orders come via RM and which come via a courier. We don't get text messages from couriers but RM tracking works well enough, stuff comes a day later than expected but then we 'expect' it a day later so all is well.
Amazon are great about deliveries and sorting out problems fairly swiftly. Live chat or phone calls are efficiently handled, lots of apologies in a transatlantic drawl, solutions are swift.0 -
With an item I buy regularly order one and it comes by RM, order two and it comes by Hermes so if I want 2 I order the 2nd as soon as the 1st is dispatched. That is non-prime though.0

Amazon has just confirmed the refund. At least, something has gone right. Thanks to all for the input. Meanwhile my order (placed 29th September) is still with Yodel in Northampton.0

How do you know they have actually refunded you?
If this is to be truly your "worst shopping experience ever", the money won't reach your account!0 -

I think a lot of it depends on whether you are ordering from a market place seller (who organises their own deliveries) and where you are living. 2 years ago I lived in a road with very very bad couriers (Amazon Logistics). I dreaded things coming through them. Never knew when/if I'd get deliveries, used to have to practically stare out the window to make sure I didn't get a 'we tried to deliver but you weren't in' card when I was actually in.
But since then, I haven't had a problem, and where I am now the drivers are very good (and friendly too).0
