Money Making ideas?

Hi,

Im a year 3 degree student, and am absolutely terrible with money. Having racked up debts in the past, I still have to pay these off. I earn approx £96 a week, so for a month I earn £384. I have to pay out £273 a month. So after that am left with £111 for the month. Now in theory that sounds not bad. But for some reason I never have any money.

So, my tips from work I am storing in a terramundi pot, that way I can't get to them and they are being stored for a rainy day.

So what other way I can do to make money. I cant do any more hours as I am a dissertation student and this takes up alot of my time.

I have some college books to sell, where is best to advertise them?

I thought of mystery shopping but for some reason on the site it won't let me register.

I always shop through Quidco.

Shall I try and sell lots on Ebay?

Car boot maybe?

I am going to withdraw a certain amount of money to live on, and give my bank card to my mum, that way I cant just keep spending and not pay my bills.

Please any ideas greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Laura

Ok first of all do a damn budget planner!

You have this £111, but wheres its going? If its going out because of drinking etc.etc. try and cut down.

Plan yourself to spend a max of £20 of that £111 a week. Leaves you with approx. £31 left. Save it somehow.

Making money wise, book sales are usually good at the beginning of the year as theres new year students, put some posters around the school saying they're for sale.

Ebay would be ok but I think students from your university would prefer it from a student there.

Also, ask the recruitment centre at your uni, they may have some flexible houes they need filling, small, partime work, like 2 hours a week, every little helps eh.

    Hope this helps,

At my Uni they often use students to help out on the Open Days, so it might be worth making an enquiry to the head of your course. The work is (obviously) not too frequent, but it's extra cash when it's available!

Yeah same at my uni, gets more regular around the time of year people are applying in route a and route B and you can get paid to take potential students on tours of the uni

My uni usually have that as a volunteer position, or they will give you vouchers or something like that. It's not usually cash.

As for money making, is it possible for you to move back home? If it works out cheaper moving home (obviously taking into account travel costs) then do it if you have to. Also do a budget and try your very best to stick to it. £111/month is quite a lot to not know where it is going. Try to keep receipts of everything you buy and then at the end of the month review what you are spending and then see if you can trim back anything.
  • Babysitting - advertise in nearby shops. It's easy work for reasonable money! When the kids are in bed, do your dissertation work.

It might also be useful to take a little trip to this page: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/protect/demotivator

here's a brilliant way of saving money when you're shopping:

When you are about to buy something, note down the price of the item. Dont get that item - see if there's something cheaper. Write down how much you have saved by doing that. Now, whatever you have saved, keep in a jar and watch how quickly it adds up ;)

Ignore Alpha7 they are a nasty low life spammer
  • you actually make about £40 more a month than you think you do as there is more than 28 days in all but 1 month of the year - something to be cheery about.
