  • The problem with the debt levels, is that although I've reduced ours down a fair amount, DH has increased his CC debt by around £12k for his course, so it most probably isn't that much of a difference overall. Although at least the new debt has a purpose and isn't just overspending like it was previously.

I rounded down the bank account this morning and sent £7 to CC3 and 3p to debt savings. DH and I have been chatting about our finances today. DH thinks he should be about £800 a month better off due to his pay rise, so we're hoping to use this extra cash to throw at the debts. The extra should at least mean my target of the debt being around £15k at the year end is more achievable.

Tomorrow we are heading to the shops so DC2 can spend the birthday money she was given. Hopefully we will only be out for a short time and won't spend much. Planning on using the virgin coffee lounge again for free drinks rather than a trip to Costa.

  • I know what you mean about being embarrassed - our mortgage broker is a school mum who I see a lot, and I'm always embarrassed when we need to sort the mortgage about our debts. It's nice that they've gone down each time we've spoken to her, but I do hate admitting how alarming they are!

  • Morning

The weekend absolutely flew by, but we had a lovely family weekend. Went for a walk to the park yesterday and the kids met up with some of their old school friends. Was nice catching up with people we haven't seen for a while.

Over the weekend I paid £23 to CC3 and today I've paid £20 to CC3. Getting really close to my debt repayment target, which is really exciting. Am amazed at how much we've been able to pay off this year. Although the excitement is always met with sheer horror of the amount of money we could have spent on other things!

DC1 is super happy at the moment, as he managed to get on the worldwide leaderboard of one of his learning subscriptions yesterday :). He was downstairs at 7 logging in to start trying to regain the position he'd lost over night. Fingers crossed his motivation will continue this afternoon once we're back from DC3s swimming lessons.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • I've cancelled my dd payment for CC3 and decided to pay the money over today. I'm now at £12,370.60 paid this year. Tomorrow's dd for CC4 should get me to my £12,500 debt repayment target. Will have a think tonight about what my new target for the rest of the year will be.

  • The £130 dd payment for CC4 has been taken, which officially takes my debt repayments this year to £12,500.60 :j. When I first set the repayment goal I wasn't sure whether we'd manage it by the end of the year, so I'm absolutely thrilled that we've succeeded. Still lots of debt left to bust, so I'm going to increase the debt repayment goal and attempt to clear £15k by the end of the year. Only £2.5k to find!!

Today we've got a fairly quiet day. We were meant to be having the boiler serviced, but he's cancelled. Need to add boiler services into my monthly budget going forward, as the home maintenance fund isn't big enough to cover it. It's funny how many things crop up in the course of the year that I had forgotten about and haven't budgeted for. Hopefully by next year I'll have everything covered!!

  • Amazing goal-busting, well done!

We have been avoiding having the boiler serviced as it will be scrapped next spring when we get our extension done. I'm slightly worried I might regret this halfway through the winter!

  • Thanks Jwil and TOPM.

TOPM - I'm always apprehensive having our boiler serviced after our old one was condemned 1 week before DC3 was due . Fingers crossed yours lasts the winter.

  • Well it's been a very stressful couple of days here. My mum was taken to hospital yesterday morning with an irregular heartbeat and blood pressure. What started as a simple cold, turned quickly into a chest infection and the start of sepsis which then seemed to cause (or show) atrial fibrillation. Thankfully she's just been discharged after many tests, antibiotics and new medication. So thankful for the nhs. The good thing about this hospital stint is it seemed to show that my mum was heading towards a stroke and they've put her on meds which will hopefully prevent it. So relieved and also exhausted from worrying about her. I certainly won't be taking her for granted again any time soon.

I've only just got round to checking my bank account for today and to cheer myself up I've thrown £45 to CC3.

  • Oh gosh poor you, what a horrible fright. Does your mum live near you? Hopefully you're able to pop in and see her. And it's positive that they've been able to stop a potential stroke in its track, but I suspect you could have done without all the drama to get to that point.
