  • I can't offer any tips, but the complaints procedure should be in the policy documents.

I can't be of much more help because I've never claimed on this type of policy myself, but as others have said a complaint may make people sit up and take notice.

    Hope it goes well.
  • Many thanks all. I hope it goes well too.

Now down to the business. Shall report back on progress or lack thereof.
  • Advent Solutions Management Limited.

Their site cannot be accessed, cannot find what their complains procedure is. Alarms are starting to ring.

I don't know much about the insurance business, but they look like a brokerage firm rather than a direct supplier of insurance. Their online presence doesn't look all that promising.

I'm sure the website was up yesterday but I can't get on to it either. They do have a facebook page, but it doesn't look very active.

    Sorry.

How did you take out the insurance? Through another company (employer) or directly with them?
  • Through a broker.
  • Advent Solutions Management Limited still are not responding to my calls. Went to the brokers, they said they would look into to it and ... not a squeak after seven days deadline (they gave themselves) passed. I feel, I have been screwed up big time by the insurance company.

They'll have a complaints procedure. Escalate the issue by following that.

    Ignore any advice from Marktheshark.

Well, they got a long way following your advice, straight back to where they started.

They appear to have a different address registered at companies house. Have you tried that one?

    Update and a QUESTION:
I took an insurance against loss of employment in Jan 2017. It was through a broker. Advent Solutions are accessing/administering my claim on behalf of insurer, who is Canopius syndicate insurer.

I have had my first payment backdated but three months later than agreed in the contract. The reason, Canopius syndicate initially refused my claim because I was given a severance package. Advent Solutions took time to sort it out in my favour.

Now, Advent Solutions (on behalf of Canopius syndicate) asked me to register for the Jobseeker Allowance, provide proof of job searchers and my bank statement. I did all of that, including copies of my bank statement blocking out every transaction apart from Jobseekers payments going into my account.

    The QUESTION:
On my bank statement, which I provided to the insurer, I have blocked out everything which is not relevant to my claim. Now I have been asked not to do it the next time. I do not see how relevant a record of my expenditure is to their consideration. I do not think they need to see if I have another source of income (such as rent from a property) - it has no bearing on my contract with the insurer.

Most importantly, it is a joint account, so my husband's salary and expenditure are also shown on the statement. He is not a party to this contract with the insurer and, frankly, objects to them sticking their nose into his financial affairs.

I am afraid that if I again block out all other entries on my statement they will refuse to pay on their obligation to my claim. On the other hand, it is extremely invasive to allow them to browse through not only mine but my husband's financial details.

What can I do to reasonably refuse them full access to our private details?

Any of the Data Protection Act provisions or anything else I could use to legally and reasonably deny their demand?

    Much grateful for your advice.
