I'm guessing that many employers these days are now starting to work on the basis of a woman keeping her own name - even if she gets married. Followed by being confused if she's adopted the husbands surname.
Then there are the people that double-barrel both surnames if they get married.
The problem wouldnt have happened in the first place if OP had kept her own name .....0 -
I understand that however the job centre told me that what I had was sufficient it also says on gov site birth certificate and proof of NI so that's what I took
Gotta side with the OP here. I don't have a passport or driving licence either, - don't need them. I never go abroad and I don't drive.0 -

That's what I thought as well. Didn't have a passport and the old style paper drivers licence.
Until I applied for a job where the company insisted on photo ID along with proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
Had to change my drivers licence to a photo one if I wanted the job (quickest and easiest to do).
Yes, what I already had met the legal requirements, but those are an absolute minimum and there is nothing to stop a potential employer requesting more, their prerogative.0 -
I really don't mean to sound rude/harsh, but here is some advice for everyone. Even if you don't plan on travelling, even if you think you'll never need it. Make a passport.
Honestly for £72 (if that's still the standard fee) a passport as a form of identity that is valid for 10 years is invaluable. Every single job I've ever had asked for a copy of this, every single company who wanted me to get SC was expecting me to have a valid one.
In the OPs situation it might be a bit late. But guys, really, get a PP cause pretty much any job you take will ask for a copy.0 -
My advice is dont fall out with the supermarket.
They take on people all the time, they'll get round to you again soon. Stay in contact if you can.0
