I turned on my laptop (Medion 1yr old) Windows 10 - this morning to a message:

‘Hi Were doing some updates may take several minutes’
‘Don’t turn off your PC’

Around half hour later I went outside as it was taking ages to finish when I came back in the laptop had shut down so I turned it back on – it loads my desktop then disappears and the taskbar flashes on then off – it’s not loading further does anyone know by chance what is the problem?
The laptop was working fine last night so I'm worried I may have a virus/worm/trojan etc even though I have Antivirus (AVG) and Firewall.
Appreciate any instructions on what to do to FIX the cause - : Many Thanks

    Probably a Windows 10 update.

No idea how to resolve the issue though, sorry.
  • If its NOT doing further updates (type windows update in cortana/search) AND if you cannot do a restart (NOT shutdown), press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Hopefully just a temporary glitch.
  • 'Updates' if that's what it was doing? have finished - Have turned on twice and still same problem!! hopefully someone know whats going on? - Fingers crossed
  • it loads my desktop then disappears and the taskbar flashes on then off
So the screen is blank? Type Ctrl+Alt+Del (3 keys together) - does anything happen? How have you been turning it off?

Have tried that (I remembered that 'fix' from some years ago) nothing happens - I turn it off by On/Off button left corner of keyboard. Yes screen is Blank other than taskbar' flick on/off
  • I turn it off by On/Off button left corner of keyboard.
If you turn it On/Off by single press of the key you may just be sending it to sleep. Press and hold the button for 5secs - to really switch it off. Give it a go.

    ^This.

It does indeed sound like one of the big Windows 10 updates, they can sometimes take an age to complete. You do also need make sure that you're plugged in to the mains when this is happening and don't allow your PC/laptop to go to sleep which may have happened in this instance.

May have shutdown during update as battery was low - it has not continued on when plugged in since 9.30am - I had update 2 nights ago still think it's not right it's never done this before!
