Differences between Noddle and Clearscore

My noodle report says my credit rating is very poor YET my Clearscore rating says my credit rating is exception?!?! Who do you trust?

The thing is I have no debt, no credit cards, no loans, haven't missed any payments for umpty squiddly years and have generally kept my head down BUT Noddle still says my credit rating is really poor???

What gives with that? Im somewhat curious as to whether this is a Noddle tactic to get you to pay for their Noddle Improve service (to help repair poor credit ratings)?

Anyway, anyone else have this kind of mismatch between credit rating agencies?

Dont even get me started on the one offered by MSE as I could never complete the registration process as I was one of those few who fell outside the system and are not able to he helped.

  • You trust neither. Both scores/ratings are made up and are of absolutely no relevance.

Check that the data on each is correct - bearing in mind that not all lenders report to the same CRAs.

To build a good credit history, consider getting a credit card, using it regularly and clearing in full each month. At present, it doesn't seem that you are giving potential lenders much evidence that you could handle credit - though perhaps you have phone contracts or a mortgage.

Therein lies your problem - some data is being reported back to Clearscore/Equifax and presumably none is being reported to Noddle/Call Credit. By having a thin file or no data about you being found you are the equivalent of an 18 year old who has never had any credit before - an unknown, hence you will be marked down as such until you have some credit history being reported.

It's why you need to have copies of all 3 reports from the agencies to get the true picture. Just because you pay your bills on time doesn't mean anything because they aren't being reported back to the credit reference agencies.

I really don't understand what is so hard about joining the MSE credit club. At what point did you fail on?

You should apply for a starter credit card and use it to pay for small things such as petrol or a weekly shop and then set up a direct debit to clear the FULL balance each month, wait for it to build up your credit history in about 6 months time and your file won't be looking as bad.

Neither did I until I went through the process and was never able to complete it. Even when raising the issue with MSE I was told that it was a known problem for a very small number of members with absolutely no way or resolving with MSE or the Experian people as they didn't provide support for the free credit report facility.

Bloody frustrating to say the least.

BTW, mobile, water, credit cards (used but always paid off each month) and utilities are all shown on both credit reports as well. Just seems odd that one rates me only just above Satan while the other you can hear angels singing when you look at the score.

  • It would seem more odd if two largely random scores were in any way similar.
  • I think its odder that they are at opposite ends of the spectrum given they both largely contain the same credit information.

Anyway, I think its the general theme here in that the number provided is pretty much worthless :)

    Hi mailmannz

Every creditor will have their own credit scoring system and they will take into account a number of factors. These include your credit history, but also things like your income, how long you have been at your address and if you are on the electoral register.

In the same way each credit agency has their own way of creating a credit score, and for that reason they can come up with different scores. It’s best not to dwell on your score as it can vary so much. Concentrate on your credit history and making sure all information on your credit file is correct.

You said in your opening post you had no credit cards - which one is it?

What is your score/rating on Clearscore and also Noddle?

What are the factors Noddle say are the cause of your low score/rating?

Do you have a bank account? Is this showing on both files?

Are you on the electoral roll? Is this showing on both files?

  • The ratings agencies can diverge when you use off the run lenders. Some lenders only report to some credit rating agencies. So e.g. if you took a risky loan (like payday) from a specific lender who only reported to one CRA, then you could see your scores diverge. Also, if you had great repayment behavior from a smaller lender, only one CRA may find out and your scores would diverge. Same if you got into arrears......

Sorry, I should have said no credit card debt!!

Noodle doesn't tell me whats holding my credit rating back. Just that Im very poor with 547 out of 700.

This is why I am wondering if this isn't the hard sell on buying their Improve product because they don't say whats holding your score back but instead pitch Improve as a way of seeing this!!!

Clear score on the other hand says Im soaring high with 11 positives and 0 negatives! Rates me as 491 with the local rating being 412 and UK average being 380???

Yes, same banks accounts on both reports and on the voting role on both too.

    Experian’s score is out of 999, Equifax’s is 700, and Callcredit’s is 710.

For a guideline of Noddle's scores see post #31:

If you have a 'poor' score on Callcredit then you need to look at your report. Are there late payments or defaults recorded in the financial section? Check every single entry including the closed accounts. Are you financially associated with someone? Any CCJs on the public info section?

Not all companies report to all 3 agencies hence why you have different scores at each one and need all 3 reports to get the true picture. So whatever company has reported data back to Call Credit, doesn't report to Equifax - hence why your score there is 'good'.

I suspect you've probably got a default or CCJ you never knew about....
