  • Yet more de-cluttering has been done today believe it or not :D.

    DH went off to the charity shop with a car boot full and bought four new Really Useful Boxes for the toy void. £54 was spent on the boxes :eek: but they are large and very strong and I'm hoping will last a life time.

    While DH was doing this, I persuaded DS1 to have another go at his shelves and he filled up a bag for the charity shop and a bag for the bin :T. We're going to try and do ten minutes of de-cluttering a day in his room.

    Then I decided to take a quick look in the toy void. As a result we have an ancient dartboard, another enormous box of some kind of circuit building kit, and a bin liner full of assorted cheap plastic toys for the charity shop. I also chucked away some broken tat that wasn't fit for the charity shop (like dried up felt tips, torn pencil cases, broken plastic toys, etc) :T.

    I've stopped for the day now but plan to finish the toy void tomorrow afternoon. Then I'll have to stop :( (or at least slow down a lot) because I need to wash and iron my work clothes, etc, on Sunday.

    Really impressed with the decluttering, well done :)

    I have a under stairs cupboard of doom which gets decluttered regularly then builds up again. I dread to think about the loft, goodness knows what's in there. I know my 80s vinyl collection is up there :eek:
    I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

    Thanks SA :). I know the stuff in the voids is out of sight, but it was getting to the point where there was no room to put anything else in there and finding anything like the Christmas decorations was a nightmare :eek:. I should have got rid of all this stuff years ago!

    You've done amazingly well with the decluttering :T :T

    At least you are getting rid of it now. I am not sure how many more voids you have!

    Thanks Nicnak :). We have four voids altogether, one large and three small ones.

    Happy Saturday all :).

    The friend of DS's who spent the night has been told by his parents that they want him to move out :(. I wonder if there is any help out there to help him get a deposit together for a rented place now he is officially homeless? It would be worth him going to the CAB for advice. I do feel sorry for him. I wish we had a spare room but once DS2 and DS3 are home we'll only have the sofa.

  • Based on work I do with the homeless, I doubt it esp as he’s a student. Maybe a hardship fund linked to his uni

    If he's at Uni he will be able to get advice from there and possibly some financial support depending on his situation. He should definitely make a start there though.

    Probably not a 'goer' but in your area I would have thought there'd be plenty of scope for live-in holiday jobs in camps, hotels etc during the summer season. The accommodation is usually dire (says she from experience of a long summer vac working at a privately -owned holiday camp where our accommodation was just like the Hi-De-Hi chalets:eek:.). That's if he wants to come back to his home area for the summer. I understand his unii isn't near home.

    Would it be possible, in the short-term, to put up a camp bed/airbed in the room of the son of yours that he's friends with?. It would save him monopolising the lounge and sofa. Does he have NO family members who could take him in}

    There's still the problem of where he'll store all his belongings that I assume his parents are wanting rid of. Maybe one of your de-cluttered voids for the time being until he gets something permanent sorted;)

    Wishing him the best of luck finding a solution. It's nice that he has your family to be so concerned about him:T
