  • Thank you Milann :). I do like the brown and wholewheat, so 1kg may be the largest size I can get.

  • After having a rest I put another wash on which is now drying in the garden.

Then I took another look in the small void. This time I found two sleeping bags and decided we only need one, so the feather one that we're all allergic to is going to the charity shop. The other one is going to get washed and stored in a plastic box.
I also found an enormous box containing an electronic circuits type toy which the DC had years ago, so that can go the the charity shop too. I also found a picture mirror that's been in the void for years and which DH doesn't like, which can go too :). So I now have a rucksack, two hessian bags and two bin liners full of stuff for the charity shop, plus a scooter :T.

I'm feeling pleased with myself and the void is looking a LOT emptier, which is good because the air will circulate better. I'm also freeing up space to store the things that we do want to keep :T.

I felt quite tired after that, but it's good to have got some de-cluttering done finally and not waste the whole of half term. I'm hoping to go through the Christmas decorations void tomorrow and get them put into bags, hopefully putting a few aside for the charity shop while I'm at it.

I'm resting now, but it's good to finally be on the mend :).

  • I just persuaded DS1 to get rid of a few items from his shelves. He also agreed to get rid of an ancient keyboard and cable. His room is like a time capsule as he is a hoarder, so a few items have been binned, a few in the recycling and some for the charity bag. We've agreed to do a bit more tomorrow. Anything out of his room is a victory :).

I'm hoping we can do a bit more in his room tomorrow :).

Great that you are able to clear. Little one spends the time taking the toys out of the bag as soon as my back is turned so I know how hard it is.

I buy wholesale for things like laundry powder and toilet rolls. They work out so much cheaper. Thankfully my parents are members of Costco so they just take me in. That saves me the membership fee anyway.

I haven't seen huge bags of rice or pasta recently in any shops. It could be because I haven't been looking for them.

Hopefully you are resting now after doing a few bits today. x

  • Thanks Nicnak :). I'm hoping I haven't overdone it with the de-cluttering, but it's so nice to get rid of things and see spaces appearing.

Have you tried popping things you want to get rid of straight into the boot of your car so that little one can't turn them out again? Out of sight is usually out of mind with young children.

I've started waiting until night time and then putting it straight in the bin outside. The only thing I can't do is her bedroom toys at this time so I wait until I have an hour when she is occupied somewhere else!

  • Another factor with the de-cluttering is that not only will it massively improve our lives now, but I don't want to be living in a house full of clutter when I'm old and infirm. Being ill for the past five days is an insight into being old and wanting to do things but not being able to do them. I think I'm doing us a massive favour by de-cluttering now whilst I'm young and fit enough to do it. I know I'm only fifty five but the years go by so quickly and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

On a more positive note, it's still a huge boost to my mood every time I open the cupboard under the stairs because it's so spacious and organised now :D.

I think a few of us on here could do a study on house sorting and mental health! I am sure it has a massive impact! x

I agree :). I can't wait to go through the entire house and pare it down to things we use and things we love. It's just a bit time consuming and pesky work gets in the way  :rotfl:.
