Sounds like a packed week, HH. Good to see you've some relaxation planned too:beer:

DH dropped some items at a charity shop for me the other day. Not particularly my favourite charity (only 4 charity shops to choose from in my local small town:() but that one has easy parking outside so I tend to use it most as all charities are worth supporting aren't they? He picked up a leaflet there asking for volunteers (for me to volunteer not him:rotfl:) so I'm giving it some thought until after after the holiday. I already do other volunteer work in a befriending group with dementia suffers, not in a shop, and know that local charity would be grateful if I could do more hours. I feel bad about not taking on any more but I find it very tiring and quite distressing sometimes:o. . I thought it might be nice to help out in a charity shop as well but I imagine they like people to commit to regular hours and I don't know how regularly I could do it. The shop manageress told DH that on several days she's having to man the shop all day by herself and is desperate for some help:o.

While I get your point about being reliable at the end of the day you are a volunteer and if you cant manage then that is as it is. Better for them to at least have someone when they can manage?

I always wonder about volunteering and whether just going when you can is acceptable or do they actually rely on you being there so they can do what needs to be done. I've thought about volunteering at the FB but can't commit to every week and definitely not school holidays. I suppose if everybody just turned up when they could it probably wouldn't run properly? Unless of course, there are also paid staff there to carry on regardless and volunteers are just a welcome extra pair of hands. xx

Usually you would be on a rota & it is sent out well in advance.
Your slot would be given to you depending on your availability.
If you cant manage you would let the volunteer coordinator know & it would be given to someone else. Lots of our volunteers have long holidays/school holidays. If you cant manage at short notice there are people who are happy to cover at short notice.HTH :) xx

I suppose though it all depends on what kind of volunteering you do xx

Thank you Noella :). I wouldn't volunteer at the charity shop unless you are sure you really want to and have the time Noella, as you don't want to feel pressurised and under stress. You already do very valuable work with dementia sufferers and I can imagine how tiring that must be and also I can understand that it must be upsetting sometimes.

You need to prioritise your own mental health and well being.

  • Happy Saturday everyone :).

I went for my Saturday saunter but kept the spends to a minimum. Because I seem to have developed a bit of a head cold and was missing DS2, DH kindly suggested I spend £30 on myself to cheer me up. But despite looking around my favourite clothes shop and the bookshop, I couldn't see anything that I wanted more than the cash in my purse :money:. So I'm going to hang onto the money for now in case I need/want anything in the future.

So my spends today were £2.40 on the bus, £2.75 on coffee, and £3.94 on antihistamines and grapes. A grand total of £9.09. DH has been to the pictures with DS1 so I'm not sure how much he will have spent, but I can only be responsible for my own spending.

I feel quite tired because of my cold and I have plenty of time to do de-cluttering over half term so I may just take it easy for the rest of today. Apart from cleaning out the furry moron and I've already put some laundry on which I need to hang in the garden now.

Tomorrow we're going to meet some friends for coffee, who happen to be driving through our neighbourhood. We don't see them very often as they live in the SE so it will be nice to catch up with them.

I got paid today so I had a fun time just now buying another £50 of premium bonds, sending £30 to the Christmas fund, and sending £100 to the EF :money:. I have nothing left now, but at least it will stop me spending it :rotfl:.

  • I've had two PA surveys this afternoon so that seems to have woken up, plus a 100 point YG survey. I'm up to £17.55 on OP but need £25 to cash out.

Funny that you couldn't find anything to spend the £3 on! Hope you find a suitable prize in the future.

Thanks Earthgirl :). I think really that it's because I'm reluctant to spend money at the moment. I keep thinking that the £30 could buy me some premium bonds or top up our Christmas savings, and nothing I saw today was as attractive to me as keeping the money.
