  • Finally caught up with your diary. I've been away for a couple of days and lots gone on!

That's great that you won't have to worry about being a guarantor because of the insurance. What a weight off your mind!:j. And what a wonderful place this DF Diary board is. I would never have known you could buy that type of insurance - clever old redo!:T

Your pots shaping up nicely too. I have the feeling that you'll never be a real fritterer again Hairy as you've had to budget so frugally in the past. You always seem to spot excellent bargains and also know when to stop!

    Have a good weekend.

Thanks SSG :). This board is amazing :).

I could still fritter less, so I want to make a real effort to save as much as possible in my pots for a rainy day. It will give me the financial peace of mind that I've never had since leaving home at the age of nineteen :).

It was just random googling while I was on a dull conference call. It never ceases to amaze me what you can get insurance for.

I also note about the agency fees, thought they had been banned, and they have for tenancies signed after 1st June. If he hasn't signed yet then he may have a case for a refund? https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2019/01/letting-fees-to-be-banned-from-june/

Thanks Redo that info was really useful :). The thought of finally having an EF only to lose it again was very upsetting.

Unfortunately DS3 has already signed the contract and he paid the agency fees in November . How crafty of them .

Oh well at least he won't have to pay agency fee again after this. He didn't tell us what he was doing until he'd already paid it and we thought he'd paid a deposit.

I remember being a student and being smooth talked by an agency for a big fee too.

I'm impressed with you returning the clothes, I'm trying really hard not to buy 'stuff' unless I both love and need it but it isn't easy and I have had a fit of the 'wants' this week. It's even harder to resist when there is money in your purse I think.

Today I've done a few PA surveys and I'm on just over £6 now. Once they're all approved I'll cash out and feed the Christmas pot with it :).

I cleaned out the furry moron, put some laundry on to wash and it's dried in the garden, emptied the kitchen bins and put the dishwasher on twice. Our garden has been rubbish free since I bought the wheelie bin :).

I haven't managed any de-cluttering today but I did drop off a rucksack full this morning at the charity shop.

Tomorrow I want to organise the cupboard under the stairs and round up any bits that should be in the shed, do a bit more de-cluttering in our bedroom, hoover and dust our bedroom, and do some ironing so I have something to wear for volunteering. If I get that lot done then I'll be doing well!

It's unfair of the agents to trade on their inexperience  but such is life.

I agree about wants being much harder to resist when money is less tight. But thinking we might have to lend DS3 £3,000 made me keen to have more savings so that we have more ability to help our DCs if they need it, and also for my peace of mind.

I hope my frugal mood and savings obsession lasts anyway :).

Morning HHD :) Sounds like you had a lovely Saturday and also a productive one money-wise :T I bet those savings pots will build up in no time, especially as you're so focused on saving.

Blimey, £360 agency fee  DD hasn't mentioned anything like that or about paying anything out and she usually runs things by us first, but when she wakes up that's the first question I'll be asking her.

    Have a nice day. xx
  • Agency fee blo*dy rip off! At least they are set to go.

Thanks TF2 :). DS3 told us that he'd paid them the money but we assumed it was a deposit  :mad:. But it's too late now.

Anyway it does sound like a very nice house and it's right next to the campus so it will be good for him not to have travel expenses getting to his lectures and seminars and he's sharing with three girls, so hopefully they'll be a good influence ;).
