I’m pretty sure that if you drag the hoover into the living room and start tidying around him DH might decide there’s a better place to deal with the shed. Like inside the bit he’s done... :D
    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

He's only done the floor and the door :rotfl::rotfl:.

Shed construction has begun again :T. So I'm going to start dusting our bedroom as DS1 is on hand to assist :).

Morning HHD - I have to say, you have the patience of a saint. :o

The 'stuff' in the house is difficult isn't it as you're not dealing with children but adults and all that comes with them! Have any of your sons ever made noises about moving out into their own place? DD is adamant she's not coming home after Uni and I think if finances allow it she'll stick to that plan - but of course finance is the major criteria and finding a job of course

I really hope the shed is finished for you by the end of the day so you can get on with moving things into it.

Have a lovely Bank Holiday. xx
  • Thanks TF2 :). DS2 has been saying for about 18 months that he's going to move to London, but he hasn't done it yet. If he did he'd be renting so probably wouldn't have room for all his childhood mementos. DS3 will move out one day but he's still at uni so would have to get a job or find an income from self employment first and DS3 is fairly minimal anyway. DS1 is on ESA so can't afford to move out. But to be fair I love having them at home and will miss them when they move out.

I am going to go through the toy void another holiday and give away a lot of the cheaper plastic toys. I'll keep the Brio, lego, duplo, playmobil, etc for possible future grandchildren ;). And I've already reduced the toys that were in the main void from two boxes to one box.

DS1 has just agreed that I can get rid of the halloween decorations :T. We used to have a halloween birthday party for DS3 every year, but we haven't got the decorations out for years, so it will be good to offload those to the charity shop :D.

I just need to keep chipping away at it.

Actually the fact DD might move out but still leave some of her stuff here hadn't crossed my mind :rotfl:

Just chipping away is all you can do and it does sound as though they're starting to get on board by letting some things go. I'm more horrible than you. I just throw anything like Easter/Halloween decs out without asking when we've had a year of me not putting them up and nobody asking where they are. :D xx

Hoping the shed is completed today. I am still in decluttering mode , the only thing I won't touch is the photograph box full of albums. I will leave that to the DC when I am long gone . The Xmas decorations are to be done next bank holiday and the linen cupboard . Then I think that it will be all done.

Decluttering can be a thankless job but worth it in the end. I had a mega clear out of grown up children’s things and everything else several years ago when I was off work for about a year (yes it took most of a year to do ) and we had an extension done at the same time. I’ve kept on top of my clutter reasonably ok by having mini clear outs every now and then...dh on the other hand....another clear out is on the cards very soon me thinks;)

Hope the shed gets sorted soon.

Let's hope DD moves to a big house with lots of storage :rotfl:. I wish I could be as tough as you. I need to be so I can get rid of more clutter. Influenced by you I'm going to be more ruthless when I look through the toy void :).

You are doing well Sunshine :T. I agree that photos are very precious :). Sometimes I can let things go by photographing them. I should probably do that with my mum's clothes, or save up enough money to get a memory quilt made.

I need a year Milann and then there's a chance I might finish it :rotfl: . I haven't done any de-cluttering for years, so it had got very bad. I must be more ruthless I think.

Oh no . You can't let DC move to smaller houses and give their clutter back to you  :rotfl:.

I absolutely love decluttering, HHoD - I'm currently blitzing the little room upstairs which I use as Foxgloves HQ. I've made good inroads, but have been slowed by all the personal & household paperwork from my parents'house following their deaths in 2017 & 2018. I'm gradually getting it all sorted for shredding, but we are not quite finished with probate yet & still in the conveyancing process with selling their house, so I'm not able to go at it too gung-ho in case any of the docs end up still being needed. It's only a small room & as it has both my piano in there & a big old WW1 era desk my Grandad salvaged & did up for me when I was a student, my shelving units have to be really well organised in order to fit in all my crafty stuff/yarn stash, household management files, etc. My target this coming week is to get some shredding done every day without fail...... then I will have the space to decide how to better organise everything else.
Gosh, I feel really motivated now!
Your shed saga is making me smile, btw!
